hey i despratly need help on installing my new serial hardrive. i have tried everythink even the programs that are designed for the hardrive :s and my bios can reconise the hardrive but when i try to install windows on it windows cant reconize it this is where my dad bourght it from : http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=CS13091 on this site is all the information about the hardrive. please help me install this hardrive as i despretly need to use it i already have it installed inside the pc est all the wires are connected i just need the tools to format it and make it useable. - any help will really be apriciated
if you are trying to install the drive as a boot drive you will need to load the sata drivers during windows set up. the drivers will be located on your motherboard drivers disc and you will have to create a floppy disc with these drivers on it. during windows set up you will be prompted to press f6 to load sata drivers. hope this is what you need
oh i still have the discs that came with my motherboard but i didnt get any discs when i bourght the hardrive (sepratly) so the normal motherboard discs will work then?
search through them, looking for files along the lines of "SATA drivers." you'll want to put these files on a floppy, as lfc4ever said, and install them during the windows installation.
I agree with these lads, you'll have to get those drivers off the Mobo cd(s), put them on a floppy *the cd should have a built in program to do that for you* and then when installing windows make sure you let it load those drivers off the floppy to ensure installation.
but you dont understand i dont have these cds it didnt come with them i downloaded the disc designed for the hardrive and when you enter it before windows starts on the bios it comes up with please enter the following floppy disc into drive a:\ of course i dont have that floppy because i downloaded the spicial program to make the floppy but it crashes at 81% or writing to the disc :S im so very confused maby i should call them but next hardrive im getting is ati, i dont care if its slightly slower !
we're not talking about discs coming with your hard drive. when you built your computer, your motherboard should have come with a variety of discs, full of drivers and whatnot. [bold]these[/bold] are the discs we're talking about.
I have a question about this, if glitchzoo is installing a fresh copy of XP, how is glitchzoo able to get the motherboard drivers to install the Serial ATA if XP won't install or see the HD?
wouldn't the situation be the normal one where xp sees the drive but can't be installed until the proper drivers are laid down first (hence the F6 for SATA drivers during the file-copying process of the installation)?
yeah but all the information is at the top of the page on that link and on that website it dosent state the hardrvies modle number on the maxtors website you need the modle number for the egzact sata \ drivers. but i have very very few floppys around as they are extinct now and most of them are dead. anyhow the software iv tried which should support most of maxtors hardrive asks me to put a floppy in and i havent got any and the maxtor floppy boot writer seems to crash at 81% when writing the information to a floppy so im really confused why cant windows say insert cd \ floppy making it easier for me :S my bios can see the hardrive but yet windows which is so more advanced cant see it. i really wish i went with an ati hardrive i dont care if there a milisecond slower i dont think we have very good tecnolagy for these serial hardrives at the moment and even though there ment to be more compatable in my eyes there less compatible and flipin hard to install. really in my eyes it should be affix hardrive to computer >> plug in to serial ports >> change bios setting so boot up serial hardrive first >> install windows WITHOUT AN PRObl?EMS SEEInG The HARDRIVE >> and woolar! you have a new hardrive that didnt take you a week to install. or atleast they should have supplied the floopy with the hardrive that would be a sensible thing to do.
@glitchzoo you will be able to get the sata drivers from the website of your mobos manufacturer. it doesnt matter which type of drive you have(samsung, maxtor, western digital etc)
yeah i am having tons of trouble finding those satadrives if i knew the modle number of the hardrive i ocul downoad the coorect one but i dont all the information i know is on the folowinf url: http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/...jsp?SKU=CS13091 but theres no modle number anyway im only 15 im not an expert on putting hardrives into computers and getting them to work. but dosent anyone agree with me, the hardrive should have come with the sata drives on a floppy or another media type?
@glitchzoo sata drivers do not come with hard drives they come with the motherboard. you said you have the motherboard discs just explore them for sata/raid drivers or go to your motherboard manufacturers website. it doesnt matter which type of hdd you have the sata drivers come with the MOTHERBOARD not the hdd
oh thanks you just made everythink a lot clearer cheers edit : just checked my motherboard disc and it dosent have any sata drivers on it but it has a update bios service that might help anyways i will search on there website now
right i have searched the website nd there are downloadable programs but im really not sure which ones the sata drivers. iv loked and i couldnt see sata around there anywhere apart from on the motherbaord decription page. motherboard details and spec http://uk.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=12&l3=45&model=202&modelmenu=1 here is the downloads for that motherboard http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4S800D ok there is all the information and thank you all for helping me so far
@glitchzoo now your looking in the right place at the page for p4s800d go to downloads then drivers sis raid driver v1.03.02 updated 2004/01/20 this is the latest.
cheers mate, now to finally install the hardrive lol. i hope in the future that make serial hardrives as simpel as ide hardrives to install.
@ddp, That's exactly right. As I posted a little bit earlier in the thread, the drive needs to have a partition created then set as active before it is assigned a drive letter(D,E)or whatever.Without a drive letter there is no drive there according to windows so it won't show up.
