OK so i have an Emachines with a 3200 a64 s754. My brother was playing around with it, try it in his case becaue im buying a new cpu and mobo which will be ariving in a few weeks, and he wanted to try the mobo in his case because theemachines one is but ugly, as im giving him the cpu and mobo that emachines gave me. Well For some reason he was playing around with the cpu, and when i get home from work i turn on my comp, and it works for about 5 minutes b4 it freezes. Next time i try to boot the fans start spinning for about half a second b4 everything gos dead and the annoying power button starts flashing as though it were in sleep mode. So i try to find out f its the CPU for sure, so i try to boot the comp with the cpu out of the socket an everything is running fine, the fan are going but no display on the montor, says its in power save mode, so i know for sure that the CPU is the problem. I tryed vacuuming the socket and getting rid of any dust left on the cpu. Got it to work, actualyl got to the XP laoding screen, until it froze again. SO now im stuck. Shoudl i continue trying to clean it myself? Should i just give u pand get emachines to fix it, i think my warranty is still void :S Any help appriciated.
Hello look if boots the cpu is not necesary damage,is the cpu fan working?? did you applay thermal grease to the cpu or heatsink or the sink is well place it can be overheating did you check for a bend pin on the cpu. dude how old is your brother?!!
lmaosix, Your brother didn't touch anything else did he??? Try clearing your cmos and see what happens. And what DR xp said, if you haven't re-applied thermal compound things can get hot fairly quickly and the result is lockup or shutdown.
Make sure that the potentially condunctive thermal compound between the heatsink and cpu isn't used in excess and touching areas of the top of the cpu that shouldn't.
hmm havent tried applying thermal grease, ill have to find some. Im sure the pins arent bent. What is the cMos? lol
the cmos i for reseting the bios to its default settings. is a jumper with 3 pin 1,2,3 near by the mainboard battery it has a plastic cap connecting to pins normally 1 and 2 fi so put it 2 and 3 for a few seconds and then put it back to 1 and 2 turn on pc and it will post maybe check sum error it will prompt you to hit del key or f1 to enter the bios set up!
Don't forget, if you clear the cmos,turn the computer off at the mains as well.Have a look at the manual for your board and look at the jumper settings.Look for the one that says "clear cmos".
o tht is the cmos, my friend clls it the "bios reset thing". I have tried it and it doe not help. however my computer now loads all the way to the welcome screen b4 resetting! im pretty sure it is the thermal grease gel compound causing my the troubles, gonna pick some up tomo.
i have tried the thermal paste. My friend recently purchased a water cooling system for h computer and let me use the left over( about halfa tube) I applied to the surface over the little grease left over from before. The computer still doesnt load past the welcome screen. I tried using a different hard drive and it also crashes at the welcome screen. im just really confused right now. Unless i applied the paste wrong, what else could be wrong? My brother assures that he put all the wires back in the right spots, and the CPU was originally put into the socket without the lock, strange but if thats how it was when i got it then ill leave it like that. I just found out recently, the whole time i was putting the cpu in with the lock. What else could be causing this problem??
lmaosix, You should have cleaned the old thermal paste off of the cpu/heatsink before applying the new paste.Get some acetone or rubbing alcohol and clean the cpu/heatsink and try again. also...why would it lock up right when i get to the welcome screen, is this when the cpu is put under alot of stress?
lmaosix, When the welcome screen appears your cpu is busy processing all the neccesary programs to display the windows desktop and make it all work.It's also loading any applications that you have enabled to run at startup.Have a look also in your bios.Is there a cpu shutdown temp option in there?Although I doubt thats the cause it's worth a look. Also try starting your pc in safe mode.
Imaosix, If you can borrow another hard drive that has windows loaded on it,(say from the computer your using now)take yours out and replace it with the known working one.If your computer starts up fine then your cpu is fine and your hard drive is the problem.Let us know how you go.
Yes i have tried that, it the strangest thing. I used the hard drive on my brothers computer, and it also freezes on the welcome screen, but then when he puts it back in his computer, it works :S+
Ok,sounds like your hard drive isn't the problem.Can you switch graphics cards between the 2 computers if they are both the same(IE: AGP/pci-e)? If so,try that.Also try swapping memory chips.
Hey crowy, its the dude with the CPU problem, u might not remember me. the thread is sorta of dead but u seem to be the one trying to help me the most. I still cant get my computer working. If the computer doesnt restart o freeze i get a blue screen with the IRQ less_or_not_equal. Did a bit of searching and it seems to be from driver issure or bad memory. I have tried bbooting withh all my PCI cards out, and with only one of my 512 sticks of ram, but then I dont even get to load to the welcome screen, the thing freezes after the memory memory and IDE check. I dont know were to go from here, and would appreciate any help u could give me
mobo drivers each hard drive while installing windows automatically installs the drivers thats y if u take someone else hd and place it in ure pc the drivers wont match=no boot a clean install will fix it
