basically M$ is making a new xbox 360 with a 250G hard drive and a built in HD DVD player that will also be used for game space unlike the add on hd dvd player i think.

my gues is that they will ask people to send in their xbox 360's and then give them a new version and probably take apart the old ones and use the parts needed for the new ones (i hope).

PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

I don't see the need for 250gb drive in my Xbox360. Neither do I want HD-DVD, but that's just me.

MS would never ask current owners to hand in their old boxes, no company would do that.

here is a better website.

http://www.xboxic.com/news/1607

ok i was wrong about hd dvd player being used for making the games larger, it will only be used for playing them, but it will be able to record unlike the external one.

yeah i supose they will not ask for are old xbox 360 but they might do what nintendo did with the ds and ds light, basically trade in the old one and get the new 360 for a little money.

i know what you mean about the hd dvd player and hard drive not being needed, but the reason i would be get this upgraded version would be that it would probably have no heat or freeze probelms.

PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

i think if this is true it would be awsome, the extra hdd, might be so games can load faster and play better,it will probably copy data onto the hdd,i wish the HD-DVD would play games aswell, you cannot deny it,but look at the past,ps1 to ps2,disk size increased 6.4 fold, and in teh beggining ps2 games fitted on just a cd,it only used dvd's later on,so from this you can see, that increasing space is a must,so i think by just using dual layer dvd's was pretty stupid from ms's side, there going to have to use HD-DVD if there going to want to fight sony, becuz if they don't there going to loose out majorly, awhile ago there was a report of someone playing fight night 3 on ps3,and he said the graphics were much better than on the 360 version,so from thus,do i think the ps3 is more powerfull,NO! it's becuz the ps3 does not have to compress,i guess ms will ahve to learn teh hard way..lol

you could say that games would get more expensive, but stores in nz are advertsing ps3 launch games for $119.00,and that's actually $10 cheaper than the current 360 titles...

so if ms requires us to get a HD-DVD drive, there going to have to put it in for free, you cannot just start making games on HD-DVD and say al those people that bought 360 before hd-dvd"sorry,but ur screwed, start coughing up cash"

but you never know what ms have planned, that's why my 360 might just "break" and then i'll get a 2nd gen one,and there one thing you all forgot,2nd gen 360's(late2007) will also have 65nm processors, and that will defianantly cool the 360 down,so it's something you look forward to..mmm

As a final note, all I can say is,2007 is going to be a very INTRESTING year indeed...

wait, current xbox 360 titles are at most $60, so if they are already advertising ps3 games for $120, thats not 10$ cheaper man, thats two fold more expensive! and i would suspect HD DVD games if there will be any, which i think wont, but i think they will be proababnly around $70 because HD DVD still uses old DVD maufactuign tecnonogles, whereas Blu-ray is a whol totally new system. and thats why it costs more.

anyway i hope they dont realease games on HD DVD, i mean, if you have 25GB , or 15 in HD DVD case of game data on a disc, that obvioulsy means the game is very very detailed, but can the system even run a game thats regular in lenght but very detailed and complex?

What PS3 games have been announced at $120? $99.99 is the highest I've heard which is still insane. No matter what they release if you successful flashed your firmware you had the big laugh on MS.

@ skater685

I'll be honest, I just read the 1st couple of posts and BurningAs's since it was the last one. Not that I read yours I probably would have ask what nz meant. nz doesn't jump out like New Zealand.

"you know if Microsoft dose this then they have just played everyone for a fool for the past year."

Which is exactly why I didn't buy one. I was waiting for gen2 and the price to come down a bit. So many people fall into the marketing hype and get this "must have" feeling. I myself, rather have a bit of patience and get it when the time is right even if it takes another year or 2.

The HD-DVD drive is where for the next 5 years consumers will be ripped off. Current HD technology still isn't perfected in the way the images are de-interlaced, encoded, decoded and displayed. For the price we are paying now I guess the small graphic leap is worth it if your that into the detail of armhair on your male or maybe female models. Obviously expect a large amount of loading times for any game with HD. It would be like waiting for Halo 2 to load in a playstation 1!!!! Better grab a few beers while you wait! At least that is if the game studios are able to take full advantage of current but out of date software. It will be quite interesting to see what format SOny devises next when their blue-ray becomes to common. I expect great things from game industry manufacturers but realistically not for the next couples years when software become closly more compatable and more capable to the hardware aspect of consoles. Does anyone remeber the smack in the mouth when we went from atari to mastery system??? Crazy Shit!

well don't expect bluray to become dead for a long time,a 200gb prototype has already been produced...and yes you might have long loading times, considering the read speed of the next gen disks..lol,we'll see what happens...

Sorry skater645, but we're Americans. At least I think BurningAs is American too. I'm betting when most Americans see nz they'll probably think it was a typo and thought you meant New Mexico. At least if it was AUS I'd have known you meant Austrailia. Unless you're in one of the bigger countries it's good to spell it out. So not I'm sure how serious you're taking this. It's no big deal to me, but don't condescend to me "m8".

Personally I don't think they will release HD-DVD games. But if this happens in the future it would be the dumbest decision of MS.

there's this rumor, being spread by Sony fanboys, that 360 developers are complaining that a dualdvd wouldn't cut it anymore, I think that's bull. The games would be more expensive too. And developers/coders are getting lazy this way. They would only cram it full of high res movies anyway.

remember the days when we just started having PC games on dvdrom, but still the game would be released in multi-cdrom form (just a number for example)

or the multipledisk Final Fantasy: I don't see the problem of multi dvd games. actually it gives you the feeling that you're progressing ;)I'd rather pay for a cheaper multi dvd game than paying extra because those bastards force BluRay upon my ass, (or HD-DVD in 360's case) I think they just design a built-in HD-DVD drive because people rather have 1 machine over an add-on. Let's just wait and see...

I think i'm gonna stick to WII, if MS does that then we have problem, i'm not willing to expend more money on another MS item, reminds me when Sega released the 32x expansion system and the CD reader for the genesis, no wait.

I think the most important factor in any game industries descision on new formats is simple.....investors and tech firms. The game industry bought right into this still infantile HD craze. They actually have game companies believing that HD is superior at this stage in development. But realistically, the software needed to maximize performance is a long way off. I believe there is some statistic about software being 5 years or more behind hardware. HD-DVD is no beter than the god damn black and white tv in my basement with the old JVC brand vcr hooked up to it. I've even played Halo 2 on the black and white and my 60" HD-tv and I can't see one damn bit of difference in detail....besides color obviously. Hell ive even compared it on a regular color tv. My point is, someone needs to give the industry a wake-up call on the real HD story, not the babbling bullsh*t of wallstreet investors and 3rd party tech reporting firms. HD-DVD games would be a major blow to the industry and probably cripple any studio stupid enough to use it. Like stated above in the last post. Think of Sega and the CD-rom add on. Good idea at the time, but no real software support for it which = crap games that look like regular sega graphics, only more grainy movies.
