This is the drive that came with my Sony Vaio. One day it just stopped reading/writing, just died. Is there anything I can do to revive it? If not, what can I get to replace it and what will it cost?

It might just need a firmware upgrade - post your make/model of drive here.

Oh right then, I am not surprised. Sorry to say ti but that drive is rubbish and has most probably died.
You want to look out for a Pioneer 111 or a Lite On...

problem has now spread here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/404141

please keep the problem contained to one 'thread' instead of spreading the problem into multiple threads; at the very least t's like walking into half a conversation
