I have tried the lastest Vista release RC1... I hate it! I am not looking forward to Microsofts next folly, and want to free of that company. The problem is I struggle using Linux. I cannot seem to get anything installed into it. I wanted to use Quicken so I downloaded and tried to install the demo of crossover to try it out, but it would not install on Ubuntu Linux. I really could use some help with Linux and the how to of using it. THANKS!
How about this : . Ok, i know, that was a bit harsh, but let's be honest, there are tons of FAQ's and guides available on how to compile and install software on linux, and Ubuntu has it's own forums dedicated to helping you do all this. Why people never realise that linux websites have forums to help them is beyond me.
I never even thought of it because I have always been a windows guy and microsoft does nothing to help you, but of course nothing in windows is that difficult either.
Once you are used to linux, nothing in it is difficult either. You just have to work at it, just like anything else. There are alot of places to get help with it too, so don't give up on it just yet..
I have put it aside for now. I was getting frustrated of getting no where. If it wasn't one thing it was another. Then expecting my wife to learn it. My latest question is what about using a digital camera? I cannot get the SD card drive to mount from my HP printer. Also microsoft has a built in digital photography program for transferring pictures.
Indeed it does, that nasty program pops up every time you pop in a an sd card... annoying if you ask me. also to mount the device ... its probably going to be a special device so try mount sdb1 etc.. also you suck.. cos i went to google.. typed in mount sd card and got this... To allow the card to be read, you apparently have to add the following line to /etc/modules.conf. options scsi_mod max_scsi_luns=2 The line allows two scsi devices to use the same cable, which they cannot normally do under RedHat. To get the line to work you will have to reload the scsi_mod kernel module, but it is easier to restart you computer. After the restart create a new mountpoint, such as /mnt/mmchd, plug in the mmc or sd card and mount the /dev/sdb1 device. Enjoy
