I would like to edit DVDs that I already own and burn them with my DVD-R to create a PG version of a movie out of an R version. I want to take out the f bombs and nude scenes so my kids can watch stuff which I own already. I can successfully rip and burn the DVDs to make an exact copy, but I have not been able to edit the actual video file to delete the audio and video I want to remove I have tried studio 8, VideoStudio, and MyDVD. All do not recognize the DVD file. WHat video editor can I use to edit the DVD file before I burn it? Thanks.

hmmm, that is very good mate! The idea I mean!

Let think now, hmm, this would be easy enopugh frameserving to tmpgenc from dvd2avi! That way you could source range in tmpgenc, to only encode a certain range, basically before an r rated scene then endcode after it and then merge them together, sound like a plan to you?

Sounds great, but since I'm a newbie, it also sounds difficult. Is there a FAQ or guide on this?

Ill tell you a crude way of doing it using DVD Shrink. You go into the DVD Re-Author section and select Start/End. From there you can select each chapter and take out as much as you want at the start of the chapter and as much as you want at the end of the chapter. Only problem is that if its a quick nude scene in the middle of the chapter, your stuck!

Look into the Pinnacle Studio 8 system and see if it allows you to edit frames of the DVD> I believe it does, but i have beeb known to be wrong in the past!

Here is a DVD Shrink USer Guide anyway:

Yes which is why I suggested dvd2avi - tmpgenc so that little scenes can be cut out easily!

Personally I'd leave the DVD as it was & just let them watch it when it's deemed that they're old enough to view it...

It's a hell of a task for someone new to DVD authoring to extract certain scenes (or parts of)

    Just my 2p worth

    LOL

I have plenty big ideas myself : )

I'm left wondering how choppy the final film would come out if the scene/deleted cut doesn't allow you to smoothly blend...etc

I believe that TMPGEnc DVD Author will allow you to import VOBs, and allows you to edit imported streams before outputting your project.
I am just speculating here, but I would assume that you could: 1) rip the movie-only to ONE large VOB file with DVD decrypter; 2) import it to TMPGEnc DVD Author; 3) edit out the sections that you don't want; 4) make a menu; 5) export the project to your hard disk; 6) shrink the output via DVD2one or DVDShrink; and 7) burn it.
Personally I am usually fairly happy to keep the "R-rated" scenes, but the above may work for you.

You can use TEMPGEnc DVD Author to do it. Just import dvd video and then edit to cut out what scenes you don't want.

I just leave my movies as is. I let my kids watch it the way it is. I don't believe in censorship for my kids. (let kids watch violence and not nudity - teaches them that violence is ok but not sex. Makes no sense to me.

Thanks for all the good advice. BTW, I plan to cut out violence and any other stuff I don't want the younger set to view, not just the nudity.

I think you should stick to the given ratings, PG, 12, 15, 18, r18, etc... That way the will watch when the vast majority think it suitable, not you. Thats what they are there for. However, it was an interesting idea.

Dela, I know it's for kids. I was saying that I let my kids watch R rated movies all the time. I don't believe in censorship for them. This country just seems to be more prudish then others.
