OK, I've got this lousy USB modem my ADSL provider has given me and a Wi-fi USB adapter. My goal is to setup my very own Wi-Fi network with internet access for everyone. What hardware do I need? Which steps shall I take in order to set everything up? Cheers
hi! ok will only need a wireless router, and wifi card or usb adapters for the others computer in your network. easy setup is you plug usb modem with ethernet cable to your wifi router(must of usbmodems also have a ethernet plug(rj45). then you use usb wifi adapter in your pc and buy as much as pc you want to connect to your network it can be usb wifi adapter or wifi pci adapters(which is better). hope i help
in control panel in internet/networks click on set a home network its a friendly setup it will tell step by step. you have to run this on every computer on your network. im not a network xpert but thats the basic
Um, I don't know if you mean "everyone" as in the general public or just everyone in your house, but if you aren't careful with your security, PC firewall, and other settings, everyone on your block WILL have access to your network and your PCs. My advice is to make sure your PCs are fully firewalled and patched, and then think about whether or not you really NEED to go wireless over wired. Only if you are certain of that should you proceed any further as Dr.XP has pointed out.
To clarify things up: I wanted to give access only to specified people such as my wife or my brother, for instance. Do you create the network before installing the router?
