Ok listen up. If you had swap magic, you could play burnt games, which means games that are burned onto a blank dvd. So yes you could, you do not need swap magic to play burnt DVD movies however, swap magic is only for the games and software.

Nothing is required to play burnt movies. But it is HIGHLY not recommended to play burnt movies in a ps2, it messes with a lot of things. It is the equivant of playing 5x a normal game, very bad life span from it.

Hi

First of all I would just like to say having read a few pages of a topic on the forum i think you guys (espcially StrikerGT) are being a great help to the people in there

(getting the feeling i am going to ask for something?)

Well i was wondering if I could just ask for your advice (as you seem to know what your talking about)

Currently i have a modded ps2 (got a guy i dont really know to mod it so not sure on chip name =/ but has been working fine for nearly a year now)

I know for a fact that the laser is going to give out sooner or later as did my dreamcast on backed up games and even my gba flash cart is showing signs of failing (i have general bad luck hehe)

Any way if youve managed to read this far without dying of boredom heres what i plan to do

First of all i will download or buy HDLoader (download preferrably hehe seeing though new version is out ill have to search a couple of places but i hope in the end ill find one (or die trying))

Then i plan to get a Maxtor 120GB HDD
and a Network Adapter

Connect network adapter and HDD drive use HDLoader to get it working (prolly harder than sounds hehe) and then sit the HDD on top of my ps2 (not sure if this best method but i dont see where else it can go)

Then to put games onto it I could

1) burn them onto DVD (Make Backups on my PC then burn a copy onto another DVD which is what i currently do) then put this disc into PS2 and hope HDLoader backs them up

OR

2) Put the HDD drive into my computer and load stuff on from there (most inconvient mothod but still a possibility

OR

3) Use a program similar to FlashFXP (forgot full name :)) and transfer the games across using perhaps a USB cable or ethernet cable to bridge the HDD drive and PC together (this is option i hope to you)

OR

4) get an external enclousure and plug HDD drive into that then use that to connect to PC(not best way as costs more money hehe)

This is where i kinda need advice I want to use option 3 but am finding it difficult to find out if it is in fact supported

What i hope to find out from you is if you think that setup would work ok or if you think theres a problem with my plan (and what you would recommend)

Thanks for reading this far and thanks for any help given

How long does it take to format a Maxtor HDD in a PS2 with HD Advance? I have a modded PS2 and it reconized my Maxtor HD and automatically the "prompt" screen came up and the "please wait, formatting HDD..." message is on my screen. It has been like this for over 2 hours. I do not think it should take THAT long to format this drive..........HELP!!

Should I try to format this for PS2/HD Advance/HDD use inside my PC instead?

Nasty, try reading the forum rules. The games must be yours for you to burn/copy. That attitude won't get you much information here since everybody here doesn't want to be kicked out for piracying...if that is a word.

Burned games are not as good of a quality compared to the original. They can slow up a bit if there's to much movements on the screen...I've experience that on both Madden 05 & NCAA College Football 05.

LOL, sorry guys when I was typing that stuff. I was talking to my wife about renting a movie so we could watch it that night... thats why *rent games* came into place. If you look at my other posts youll see what I want to do is to burn a copy of all my games and use the burnt copy so if they reck some how, ill still have the orginal. Sorry for the inconvenience.

dvd burner
dvdr (doesn't matter if it's + or -)
burning software, nero or any generic copying program

That's just the part to backup games. If you plan to play it, you might also invest a few dollars on these item:

*"flip-top" cover
&
Magic Swap Disc...CD & DVD Version

**********Last and also the most important thing is...

Must have a ps2.

No you cant play copied games, it just allows you to put your games on your hdd, (which you do need) and play them off your hdd, load times are faster and you dont have to switch your games and worry about them getting scratched

hd loader won't allow you to play copied games or save your copied games on the harddrive. You will have to get hd advance to do so.

One thing I forgot to mention on the list:

Need a network adaptor for the ps2.

So I need
*"flip-top" cover |||||AND||||
*hd loader/ hd advance or exploit mc (not sure if there's any info on this anymore)
*maxtor harddrive - not sure the minimum requirement, but you might as well get one that is about 40 gigs. Some dvd ps2 games are 2-4 gigs. If that's the case, then you can save about 10 ps2 dvd games that is 4 gigs each.
OR JUST THE FLIP TOP COVER OR THE HED LOADER.? because i have hd loader and it works perfect but I cant play like socom 2 becaue all i play is online games.

||||So if i got the flip top, would I need the Swap Magic Disc's?||||||||||| whats the difference between the 2? Thanks

My bad, it's magic swap disc and not hd loader/advance.

Flip top is the ps2 cover...magic swap disc is the actual cd/dvd disc to boot your ps2 in thinking that those burned games are original. One problem is that there are some games that won't play unless you have a cd loader.

lol, I knew this issue would be brought up. Hd Loader retail version (the one you buy) will NOT allow you to put on burnt games onto the hard drive. However, there is an exception. There is a downloadable version for people with either swap magic or a modchip that is customed to be able to do that too. I also beleive that the buyable version of HD Advance let's you put on burnt games anyhow too. So there's a couple of solutions.

I've ordered from both ps2fliptop.net and modchipamerica.com for my ps2 and had no problems. I haven't ordered anything from your referenced site. I'm sure it's as reliable as any.
