just mentioned on another thread that one of my MCC004's failed the burn (but as was at the lead-in stage i was able to reburn with it). They're Indian Verbs and i have 18 tubs of the things so think i'm gonna send then back and get some more TY; whenever Verbs let me down i jump ship quicker than a mosquito
All scan's shown above were burned on same burner Ben-Q 1640 using +R's booktyped to DVD Rom with these Q-suite setting's only differance being burn speed.Zebadee do you have any advise on the settings for Q-suite.
pager651: That overspeed pic- enabled-it will burn 8x media up to 16x. Disabled-and it burns at disc rated speed. I keep mine disable-to prevent overburning the 8x media to 12x or 16x. One thing about these benqs, they will overburn most 8x media at 12x and some like sony +1x-8x at 16x. It's a very nice feature. One of my pcs has a single benq 1620 and no other reader.I'm very limited on burn speed settings using dvd shrink and autoburn with nero. My options on that pc: 1x/2x/2.4x/and max. 16x burn on those yuden000-T02 aren't too shabby either. 2.4x gives me worse scans and more crc errors. Max speed would burn those Yuden000-T02 at 16x. Not much flexibility. Qsuite was suppose to work for the benq 1620 with the B7V9 fw. The overburn speed protection is grayed out on this pc. My last benq 1640 replaced that 1620 for that purpose. No more overburning on that pc. I leave WOPC enabled Solidburn set just like yours. I don't mess with those much. As long as I don't overburn and keep my backups booktyped,That's all that matters to me for now.
Hi, paiger651, my personal settings are:- 1620 retired (on standby for an emergency) 1640 SB/WOPC enabled for all media OS disabled 1650/1655 SB/WOPC enabled for all + media SB enabled WOPC disabled for all - media OS disabled for all media All my media is 16x MCC 03RG20/MCC 004 + YUDEN000 T03. These settings work for me. But it doesn't mean that they would suit everyone. If you looked on another forum, you'd see that I really play around with f/w & it's interaction with this media. Crossflashing/backflashing .cvt or .exe files safemode/dos etc. So my settings I'd like to think are optimal to my system. They may or may not work for you. All my writing is done @ 16x with the 1650/1655 & 12x with the 1640 (& 1620 when it was in use). For most users 12x is fine (I accept that if you have something important to you, then playing 'safe' @ 8x is acceptable). This is using 16x media. As far as SB/OS/WOPC goes for most in the long term SB/WOPC enabled for all media (even with top of the range media there are benefits, if only minimal) This gives greater consistancy. OS disabled, although SB will usually prevent disasters. It's tempting fate if looking for consitant & reliable backups. BTW Did you know that despite SB being disabled for known media, BenQ recommend it be set to enable for known media. Philips the inventors of SB, have SB enabled for all media as a default setting with their media. Draw your own conclusions. Added:- With 8x media Taiyo Yuden reign supreme. Write speeds acceptable to very good @ 12 exceptionable @ 8x. SB/WOPC enabled for all media OS disabled, regardless of - or +. TY 16x hasn't been around as long as MCC. So if considering 16x media, for the time being MCC has the edge (I expect this to change along with f/w updates) N.B. Bitsetting all set to DVD-ROM. PS. Is it worth moving some of these posts to a new thread, leaving the scans behind?
Both of these discs were burned at 4x and all QSuite setting at default ... Sony/Yuden Sony/SonyD21 as you can see, the D21 doen not fare very well at slow speeds ...
Here's a couple of scans from the Japanese spindle of SonyD21,a while back using my Benq 1640: SonyD21 burned at 4x: SonyD21 burned at 8x: The taiwanese sonyD21 look a little worse.I'll post them later, from my Benq 1650 2000+ PIF errors is way too much. The benq 1650 handles them better.
My little bro gave me a 5 pk/with jewel cases-of Maxell +8x HighGrade. These discs are gold on top, with purple letters-pretty sharp. Made in Japan and by Hitachi: Maxell-002-00 Here's the 3rd one I burned at 8x on my 1650:
here ya go, Verbatim 8x dvd+r burned @8x, all my settings remain the same as my other scans (ie. SB and WOPC enabled ie.~default~, overburn disabled) i will show you an IDENTICAL disc, but scanned on my pioneer...the difference is huge... docTY~
here is the SAME disc as above, burned with the Benq 1650, but SCANNED with my pioneer dvr-109~ the results are simply STAGGERING...that's why i tell EVERYONE, NEVER EVER EVER rely on the results of a pioneer drive to scan, they are excellent burners and incredibly fast, rock solid as well; however, they couldn't scan a disc decently if their lives depended on it~ good lord...a picture is worth a thousand words...see for yourself. docTY~
