It takes the dvdfab team about 24 hours to get a turn around response.
If it wasnt for bad luck, Id have no luck!

A post from the author of DVDFab says:
Dear all,
We have decleared on our website:
All customers who buy before May 8th, 2008 will get free lifetime upgrades.
Best Regards,
Fengtao
Then the next post says:
You get about two weeks from today, which means from now to May 8th, you can buy anytime to get free lifetime upgrades.
After May 8th, you will see the new price when it's the right time.
That's all that's known as of now.

Many people have been asking that question at Fab's home forum. There has been no response to that question. I guess we all have to wait and see.

@ dialysis1,
I contacted Ada Fang at DVDIdle.com. She said, "DVDFab HD Decrypter was, is and will be a free software."
Here's her email if you'd like to check this for yourself. ada@dvdidle.com

Agreed.
There seems to be a lack of straight forward answers about some of this stuff.
I also emailed, seeking clarification on a few of these things. Haven't heard back yet.

Dvdfabhd was/is good while it lasted. Hey I bought dvdfab plat. I guess it's time for fengtao to make a profit. They deserve it and they gave us quite the free gift for the longest.
If it wasnt for bad luck, Id have no luck!

About the paid versions.
This is just pure speculation on my part.
This statement had me wondering:
Quote: All customers who buy before May 8th, 2008 will get free lifetime upgrades.
Now going to http://www.dvdidle.com/ you will see three products. I clicked on Audio DVD Creator and then clicked on the order link and saw this:
Registration benefits:
FREE minor upgrade (Upgrade Policy)
FREE lifetime English support via e-mail, worldwide
Full license to use the software beyond 30-day evaluation period
I clicked on the Upgrade Policy link and it states this:
Quote: When you buy the license of Audio DVD Creator, you will get minor upgrade for free. Minor upgrade is the upgrade of which the first version number has not changed. So if you buy Audio DVD Creator 1.x, you can upgrade to any other version 1.x free of charge.
Major upgrades are indicated by a change in the first version number. So an upgrade from 1.x to 2.0 is a major upgrade. Major upgrades usually have a significant amount of improvements and new features. Therefore, you will likely have to pay an upgrade fee if you want to take advantage of a major update. This fee is typically half the price of the product. We do reserve the right to give you major updates for free as well, though. This decision will depend on how major the upgrade really is.
I'm wondering if DVDFab's policy is going to change to that.
Again this is just pure speculation on my part.

I read that too. I already bought DvdFab Platinum. I couldn't sit around and speculate.
I really wish there would be some clear cut answers to some of these questions.
I feel like the free users are just waiting for the hammer to fall on/shortly after May 8th.

Quote: 7thsinger - i noticed you're a cdfreaks member, you could maybe ask fengtao himself on one of the official DVDFab threads, like the 5.0.0.0 Beta one...
I had sent an email asking a few things...and got a very vauge reply. One that honestly didn't satisfy much.

The new beta 5.0.0.0 is crap IMO! Fengtao does not seem very interested in getting into any talk about why the latest version is all screwed up on Linux and Wine. I have had better results ripping with my trusty old Freeware program that has only failed on 2 discs that I have wanted to back up. It seems Fab has been buggy for some time now and there is no way I would pay for all the bloatware in the premium versions. I would however be willing to pay a resonable price for a stripped down Ripper only. We can only wish for another great free program to come along to stop the greed!
Converting one Windows user at a time!

Ah, i see..
Luckily that's a part of the software i have no interest in, though i'm sure there will be people who won't be overly amused at paying for multiple products. Just glad i'm only interested in the normal movie ripping side of things then.. I've also noticed the latest threads (by DVDFab staff) over at cdfreaks are being closed ie not allowing comments. The suspicious part of me might start wondering if they don't want any questions re cost being included in the version update threads...
