I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300hd DVR box through Time Warner Cable they charge me $8 dollars for the box and $4 for the service. I bought the same exact dvr model and wanted to use it to eliminate the $8 rental fee. They wouldn't do it because they said they wanted to rent the box to me because if anything happens to the box they would replace it for free. My question is this, was the lady being diffucult or can I use my own cable box to eliminate the rental fee? Do I have to rent their equipment to use their service.
