Wireless and confused

Hi I have used this site before and have always had a great response so I really hope you can help me with my current problem.

I am currently running 8meg boradband throught telewest (Blueyonder) I am using a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4ghz router and am connecting using a belkin usb adapter at 54mbps. If i was to upgrade my router and usb adapter to allow me to connect wireless at 125 mbps will this make my internet any quicker, I have heard it doesn't make any any diffrence to internet speed.

Could you please give me any advice on this subject, I have looked through the forums but cant find anything related to my question.

It won't speed up your internet... but it will speed up your computer's connection to it: Basicly you're limited by the maximum and average bandwidth that your provider gives you. If you upgrade to a higher bandwidth wireless you might see better speeds out of your download, as if it were physically connectd to the modem, because of the higher bandiwdth. Either that or it may just do nothing noticible. Either way you decide to do it, the faster connection would help even if not by much.

 

Many Thanks for your reply I have decided not to buy a new router, I am how ever going to hardwire one computer in my house and use that for any downloading I do.

Would you say this was a good option?

 

I prefer a hardwired network, and they're usually a bit faster, at the very least there's not nearly as much that COULD interfere with the connection, so that would definitely be an option for you.

Hi, I'm new to wireless broadband. I bought a Linksys broadband router with MIMO but I don't know which USB adapter to buy. I am working with a range of about 50+ feet here and want to make sure I can get a strong fast connection. Any help would be appreciated and if you need more info to help let me know, thanks.

 

Hi I am using a BELKIN F5D7050UK WIRELESS 54G USB NETWORKING ADAPTER please see link http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=369188&category_oid= I have the same router and it connects really well I can use at the top of my garden about 30 meters away and still connects 100 percent.
