I have a 1GB stick of DDR400 (PC3200) 184-pin DRAM that doesn't want to play nice; I've recently tested it in another motherboard, and it shows up as the full 1GB; but when it's in my motherboard, it only shows up as 256MB. Also, if I put the 1GB stick in with a 256MB stick, it STILL shows up as only 256MB of RAM. My motherboard is a Jetway S755MAX w/2 184-pin RAM slots, and a Socket 754 with an AMD Athlon 64 3000+. I've tried reflashing the BIOS and clearing the CMOS, and messing with the DRAM timings, but to no avail, and the last thing that I want to do is buy another motherboard. Much help is appreciated
is it single or dual sided ram i had to get single sided ram to get more than 256 module to work on my 754 board.
But this still doesn't explain why when I put in my 256MB stick of RAM (one-sided) along with my 1GB stick of RAM, it still only shows up as 256MB (Is the 1GB being ignored in this case?)
You are failing to give specifics on ALL of the RAM you are installing. I have never heard of that motherboard, but it would appear that you have been given an aswer to your problem, by marsey99.
i had the same problem with 512mb pc3200 modules. it has somthing to do with the memory controllor in th cpu on 754 boards not understanding the data when the ram tries to split it on to both sides of the module, amd fixxeed on 939. take it back and swap it for single sided ram and it should work. mine does because it cant under stand it but the 256 it can it appears so, but when i put some in mine it just crashed with the blue screen of death every time it should of loaded the logon screen, mine would go no further.
That would solve my problem if my 1GB of RAM showed up as half its value, which would be 512MB (My 1GB RAM stick is 16 chips of 64MB, 8 each side); however, even with the other stick of RAM in, it still only shows up as 256MB, which doesn't make any sense. And from what I've read, double sided DDR should work just fine; if anything it may run slower due to the memory controller on the Socket 754 procs. From what I gather, the only way to further test this problem would be to get a single-sided 512MB or higher stick of DDR400 RAM, change out my proc, or change out the mobo for another Socket 754 mobo.
