Stereo speakers blown out?

    Hi, I got some very old speakers from my dad with a reciever and I always play them fairly loud. Now they are always quiet even on max volume. They use the gold and silver wiring if it makes a difference.Is there any way to tell if the speakers are blown out besides hooking them up to another reciever?

    does the reciever have a button marked "Tape 2 monitor"?

    No, it does not.

    EDIT: NVM when I press cd direct it works.
