Don't expect too much of an over-clock to start with, as it won't over-clock to a great degree.
Next the over-clock will only really help you raise benchmark scores, real world benefits will be almost non existent and not really noticeable.

However if you are going to do it follow a few basic steps.

Keep an eye on card temperatures if possible, not all AGP versions have the LM63 chip on board that enables temp monitoring, this is missing on some cheaper cards as it reduces production costs.

Do the overclocking manually not by an auto overclocking tool.

Upgrade the heat-sink and fan to an aftermarket one.

Remember that not all cards are equal, some cards onboard chips are binned by max clocks tested and as such you can get a card that just meets the spec that it was sold at, or sometimes get one that easily does it, and can therefore either be clocked to near or into the next spec up.
Its luck of the draw sometimes, but then again cheaper make cards may just be getting batches of chips others are not using by choice.
