I had a dual install runing for a while but I wanted to repartition the disk,40Gb,256mb Ram, 1.2Ghz compaq Evo N600c. After a few attempts, and fomats to eventually 40Gb Ubuntu only system which failed to install, My Windows will no longer Format the Drive and Ubuntu will no longer install the base system. Have I completely burnt this drive? How can I reformat this linux drive.

Look for a free tool called Hiren's BootCD, download it, burn it to a cd, and then use the partition managers on it to delete all partitions on the drive, and merge the whole thing into one big drive again.
