I know you can get a PS2 cable that runs from the PS2 to a S-video connection instead of the component 3-cable. That brings the highest resolution possible, the PS2 doesnt output true HD, Xbox3 does and PS3 will.

From afterdawn glossary
HDMI- HDMI is short for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. It is an interfacing standard for transferring digital video and audio between electronic devices. The standard includes a physical connector, cabling as well as specifications on how the data is transferred between the devices.
You would use that with say your cable, satellite, or antenna converter box that is HD ready. If you plug your computer to your TV many newer video cards have HDMI output. An S-video is the same as the RCA cables you normally plug into your TV from the PS2, only it has better resolution than the regular cable. HDMI is better than either of the 2 which is what HD is and what the newer systems use.

No problems, any store that sells PS2 equipment should have the S-video cable. Look on your new TV, i'll wager that you have 1 or 2 S- Video ports. You still need the 2 colored AUDIO cables, but the video cable doesnt look like a regular male cable, but more of a cicular computer type interface.

Yes i just checked its like a circular type port, i will look in my local game for this cable, cheers for the help.

Oh and BTW is there a cable that will go from my standard sky box to HDMI port for better quality images, or will i have to subscribe to sky hd channels?

Most likely it a totally different box than you already have, HD box/ reciever is different than regular TV recievers. I've never heard of your "standard sky box" we might be talking about the same thing that people from 2 different places in the world term differently. Is that regular antenna programming or from the cable company or have a satellite dish?
If you have the capability, the port on the box looks the same as TV.
Where I'm at (OHIO, USA) setting things up in HD is slightly different depending on the service. I have the same channels 2x in some cases, the standard and the HD, so yes maybe you will have to resubscribe your services.

Get a component cable for your PS2, not S-video. You would need a SkyHD box for better quality sky.

I concur. The component cables for the PS2 will give you the better picture and higher resolution. To say an S-Video cable will provide better results than component cables is incorrect.

I also agree. Component Cables (which outputs YPbPr - no clue what it stands for) and Scart (which outputs RGB - Red Green Blue) Cables give a much better picture quality because they output more data than S-Video or Composite. To get every last bit of quality out of it try buying a cable with gold connectors and OFC cable. The same principle applies for the 'Normal' Sky box (I know what your on about - from memory however it only outputs RGB from the TV scart scoket, no YPbPr).
