    Hi born2ride
Well if the burner is the NEC ND1000A then that burn time may be close depending on how it's connected to the pc. Using 2.0 or 1.1 usb hub?

Not familiar with the specs on your dell so how about the processor speed and amount of ram installed?

hmmmm running kinda low here on the specs - my guess is going to be that you have a 1.1 usb hub with those specs and quess of the age of the pc.

So your times are about right. You could get a new usb pci card to upgrade to a 2.0 usb hub and cut the burn speed time down. Wouldn't really help the encoding part unless you are reading from the same drive (external nec) too.

Maybe time to ask Santa :0) for a new pc for Xmas :)

    No problemo born2ride :)

No biggie on the pc specs - we all have different ones here - some slower some faster. They all accomplish what we need!

Ok are you talking the LiteOn is having problems reading the original disc or a blank disc?

May need a firmware update. What's the model and firmware version? To find it in Nero Smart Start go to InfoTool. Pick the LiteOn in the drop down. The model # will be listed. In the drive tab there is a field for the firmware version too.

Did this LiteOn come with the Dell?

Looks like the latest one for the Dell LiteOn is GDHJ. This might help if it's not up to date.
Since it is older it may just be on the way out.

You can pick up a LiteOn dvd-rom or combo drive pretty cheap at newegg.com You should meet the system requirements for those.

Here's a pick to show where the firmware version is listed:

E's okay - that just the drive lettering.
    Is 'E' the LiteOn?

Ok did you try uninstalling the drive in device manager and reboot? You can post back in the other thread and we can go from there.
