laptop will not boot (hp compaq nx 9010)

    Hi i tried starting up my laptop today but i am just getting a black screen that gives me different start up options safe mode, most recent working mode ,etc i tried these but nothing works just the black screen with the same message .Its running on XP OR IT WAS ANYWAY.please help..Thanks.....

    nothing happens the screen just stays as it was giving me the same options.sorry for late reply using another pc..

    so you press enter, and the options for loading windows are still on the screen? Can you mvoe up and down to select them?

    as soon as i select one of the options using the arrows and then press enter the screen freezes and i have to reboot before i can try any of the options again.

    With any of the options? Hmm, may be time to try backing up your data and reformatting...

    will give it a try again today and post the results,someone else suggested reinstalling and booting with the XP disc so i might try that aswell...Thanks

    Can do, although i'm a little concerned it crashes the instant you choose the option.

    yeah me too, i get about five lines on the screen when i try the safe mode boot but then nothing,hope the hard drive aint gone??anyway the XP disc is in work and i aint back till tuesday,long weekend here so i will have to wait till then,its like loosing a limb.

    Try reinstalling windows, if nowt, you may need to reformat. If it's the second you choose the option I doubt it's hardware, it sounds like an install issue.

    hopefully thats all it is, or santa will be bringing a new one,thanks for the advice will spend tuesday trying to sort it out
    and i will post the results..
