hoping someone could help me with a problem I've been having lately. Just started using Dvd shrink and Nero a few months ago. It's been working perfectly fine on my Dell for about 50 Dvd's and now all of a sudden I can't get it to finish burning. It also sometimes has problems recognizing media even though I've switched that a few times. Currently using Sony DVD +R's. Here's the burning failure log. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi kenny8867
    Here's some suggestions.
1st let's edit out that serial # at the top of the log - begins w/ 1A - don't need someone else getting it.

Update Nero to 6.6.0.18 - last version of 6 to autoburn w/ Shrink.
    Package 1
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2 (recode & vision)
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe
May not be playing into this error but best to have all drives in DMA mode. Here's a guide to get it turned back on:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Looks like your drive's firmware is up to date and you are using good media. But lower the burn speed down to 8x.

The drive not recognizing some media - could be the media itself. Poorer, less compatible media can give drives a problem.

Give those a go and let us know.

I agree with Binkie on Lower the Burn Speed. If you have 16x disc's, try not to burn any faster than 8x, as a general rule.

One other thing that I'm not sure if you do or not, but in Shrink, you can lower the file size of the output file. It is recommended not to exceed 4300mb.

Thank you, I'll try these recommendations. A few things that worry me are some of the Sony discs in the same spindle are recognized and some aren't, also I tried burning at 8x and it didn't work, I made sure DMA was enabled and restarted, also tried uninstalling dvd-rom and dvd-rw and let windows reinstall them after restart, even uninstalled DVD shrink and Nero and reinstalled them, also tried to make sure borders were set at 4300, also got an optidisk to clean the drives. Anyways thanks again and I'll let you know how all this goes.

Ok here's some more suggestions - if you haven't done thess very recently. May not help on the problem but good to do regularly.
    °Disc cleanup & defrag
°run a good registry cleaner like ccleaner
    °Antivirus and spyware scans

Check the connections on the drive too - make sure secure. The DVD-Rom still shows off so trying uninstalling that channel again. Bad ide cable maybe?

What other discs have you tried? Anything change pc wise since this starting happening?

Thanks, I've defraged and done a virus and spyware scan (everything seems ok). I'll try checking the cables and drive also. I think the previous media was Fuji. It was when I purchased these Fuji dvd's that I started having issues

Ok in this last log you have this error: No seek complete
Could be caused by the power supply so while you're checking the cables I would check the power connections too. Even change it too a new power connection.

Could also be a dusty lens in the drive. Blow the drive out w/ some compressed air or a dvd lens cleaner.

Media always a possibility too - Sony are usually good. May not hurt to try some verbatims.

Then there's the drive itself so try some of the other suggestions and let's see how that goes.

I'm a LiteOn fan - being using them for a few years.
If you want the LightScribe then pickup that model.
If not than look at the SHW160P6S or SHM165P6S(latter writes to dvd-ram if you're need that).
I have the SHW160P6S and am quite happy with it.

    Keep us posted!

    just passing thru, and teleported this one to the Nero forum;

noticed you were using Nero 6.6.0.0. I used that version for a very long time and it's still a great version; however Binkie's recommended you a very good version indeed there (6.6.0.18 which i now use too). you could have stayed with 6.6.0.0 if it wasn't for this -
    - ie that version of Nero is too old to recognise your burner properly..

    just being a busybody :)

Thanks to everyone for the help and advice. I just installed a new Liteon SHW burner and everything seems to be working fine. Just burned 3 dvd's no problem. Hopefully this will be the end of problems for a good while. Thanks again, especially Binkie7!!!:)

that's great, however i'l bet your burner is still only generically recognised being as Nero is so old...
