I think I'm gonna have to get a new power supply. I recently replaced my old 300w with a 350w, but I still don't think its enough. I don't have much knowledge of power supplies so I am appealing to your superior knowledge. I read so much just to buy the new power supply but I'm still confused as to how to determine what power supply would be best for this machine. Hardware: Athlon 64x2 3800(HP Pavilion) 2 gb ram (1gb stick+2 512mb sticks) 2 hard drives (1 sata 250gb+ 1 IDE 200gb) ATI Radeon x800 pci-e SB Audigy 2 ZS Wintv PVR D-Link wireless network card 9 in 1 smart card reader Anyone have any ideas?
Hello, By looking at ur specs, I think you are a gamer so I would go for a 450-550 power watt supply, if you do serious gaming. I dont really have a spacific brand picked out for you, but if you are ever interested in doing duel graphis cards, then I would go for somthing a bit bigger than the 350 watt power supply. A 450-550 power supply is, I think best.
Thank you for your input. I'll take a look at the 450-500w on newegg. Is there anything else I should look for as far as voltage or anything?
Well before you buy a new power supply, make sure it fits the case you have. if you have a standard ATX case, then this should be alright... pretty cheap too.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817174023 If you can spend more I would go for this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817128006
Yeah fitting the case was something else I was worried about. I have a store bought HP Pavilion, so would that be considered a standard ATX case? When I was reasearching before I would read here and there that HP computers sometimes have oddly shaped cases so you would have to buy a powersupply from them. Then again these articles would be a few years old so it might not even hold true anymore. Thank you for the suggestions. I'm definately going to check those out.
