I'm not sure if this is a problem with Nero or what, but this is the problem I've been having.

I create a compilation with a program and it creates the VOB files, which I can preview prior to burning with Nero and the picture is fine. So somewhere between that and the burning process, something happens and the end result is a choppy DVD.

Like I can preview all the VOB files with PowerDVD and the picture is normal, smooth and ready to go, then I open Nero, use DVD Video to burn the DVD, I get no errors and a confirmation final popup, then I pop the DVD into the player (any player gets the same results) and the picture is choppy and skiddish.

Does anyone know a solution to this or what it could be? This has happened with two of my custom made compilations in the past few weeks. I have no idea how to burn these with a good picture.

This is the result of rly bad media. What media are you using?

You should use Sony, Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

You could also be burning too fast, it is usually the two that do it.
If you don't want to buy more media then burn your disks at 4x. If you buy better media like I suggest, then you can burn upto 12x, to be safe.

I've tried it on TDK, Sony and when I got enough coasters, I finally attempted with cheaper media ProDisk and Sonic. I slowed all the burns down to 4x hoping that was the case but it never made a difference. :(

I have used Verbatim in the past but when I bought a whole bunch from Best Buy, most of them ended up being defective so I gave up completely on that brand (even though the one's I purchased online in the past never were bad). So I don't purchase that brand any longer.

    My disk drive is:
    Philips DVD+-RW DVD8801
    Revision- 4D28VA155S6

My computer is a Dell XPS400 and the drive came with it.

Ok, then let's stick with your media you have at the moment...
Or you can pick up some Taiyo Yuden disks...

Can you post a burn log from Nero here please, for me to look at.

As i thought your media isn't recognised by your burner. It is quite old (your burner) so try using 8x disks instead of 16x.

Hmm. They sold me an old burner? Figures Dell would rip off customers even on their high end machines. The Sonic's I have are 4x but I only have two of those left. Did maybe the log not register the media since it was simulated or would it read it anyway? Maybe I should burn something else so I won't be creating another coaster and post that log? It's so strange that only these certain compilations are giving this result but other things are fine.

Okay, here's a log from Nero Vision. I didn't tell it to burn at a slower speed or anything and the picture is perfect as normal. Is it still not recognizing the disk? I've also tried burning the compilation I'm having trouble with with Nero vision in the past and got the same choppy effect.

(I edited out the junk I thought was irrelevant)

edit: Okay, I see where it says the same thing you pointed out earlier. How come it doesn't recognize the media but usually burns fine except just with two compilations? Should I contact Dell because I purchased the burner with it advertised as a 16x or is it a 16x and it's just defective?

Well except for it not recognising your media again
I thnk it may be your dvd player if it plays in the PC but not in the dvd player...
How old is the dvd player?

It plays in the stand alone DVDR (Panasonic DMR-ES30V) but the picture is bad. It also plays bad on the computer.

The unburned VOB files picture plays fine on the computer though.

I just lowered my hardware acceleration on my computer and played a single VOB from the burned DVD and it looks like the non burned VOB. So now I'm even more confused.

Is there a reason why I don't have a secondary drive listed? I think that it's the secondary drive I'm having troubles with because the main drive is only a DVD player while the secondary is the DVDR

Should I uninstall the driver to this instead?

I removed the driver, rebooted and the DMA is still off. I remember in the past deleting something in the registry when this happened that actually worked but that was a long time ago. Hopefully once the DMA turns on there won't be anymore problems.

Cool, so is it working now you have DMA on?

    thread teleported to relevant forum.

    - your burner can recognise the media, though it's not the best media at all..

    - Nero doesn't recognise the burner properly, but don't know if that's a contributing factor. Update Nero

your second logfile shows you burned at 16x, way too fast, especially as DMA is OFF for that one drive. Once that's started out try 8x

I will update right away. I see people are saying the new version the best Nero so far, I hope that's true since there's been so many problems since 6 updated. I could not change the burn speed with Nero Vision so that is why it burned so fast.

If anybody knows the registry key I'm supposed to delete to get the secondary DMA back on, please let me know. I know the thread is on this board, unfortunately it's over 120 days old.

Use Nero Burning ROM to burn Vobs and BTW 6.6.0.18 is the best version of Nero IMO...

    Don't use 7...
