hi I have just purchased, and installed, a DVD burner. I am a complete novice at this so please bear with me! I have purchased Nero 7 and I am trying to burn .mpg movies onto a blank DVD. However I am having real problems doing this!! I have now been told that I need to convert these into .avi files. Can anyone tell me how to do this (for free would be better!) and how to burn these files with Nero? Thanks a million zism
just follow the guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/293994http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/293994 and here are more Newbie advice: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm don't know what programs you have to use to burn your movies that are on the hard drive? here are some other programs that many members love and use all the time: DVDDecrypter, download it from here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1 Although this program is not updated any more it's one of the best free programs that does EVERYTHING and still works for older movies that are at least a year old or older. And even works with some newer movies that didn't put in the newer encryptions. Use the guides that I gave you (above). DVDFab Decrypter download it from here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm when DVDDecrypter can't rip the movie to the hard drive(newer encryptions---the new movies) then use this program to rip to the hard drive.... it's free AnyDVD & CloneDVD2 download it from here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/ this is not freeware..... but it lets you have a 21 day trial period to use the programs and they work great on new movies and old and are updated often. So if new encryption come out on those new movies just released these programs will already have the updates! Shrink download from here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_... RipIt4Me is a great free program that will do everything. Download the programs and follow the directions: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110, this is another freeware program that does many movies and you can reauthor a movie to the way you want it... good program for newbies with the guides and these programs you should be well on your way to burning DVDs to your hearts content! enjoy........ some tips of the trade: 1. use good media will stop many problems you might run into. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, Sony..... look for the ones Made In Japan. the exception to this rule is Verbatim. 2. burn at half the rated speed of your media (if the disk is an 8x media speed then burn at 4x). This will stop reading errors from your player. 3. Don't burn too close to the edge of the media. 4484MB is the max and on good media you can go as close as 4400.... to be sure I only go up to 4384MB just in case and I use Taiyo Yuden where I know my buddies go up to 4400 without any problems. 4. keep your firmware up do date..... this will make your writer recognize all the disks and burning speeds and other improvements with the software of your drive. just some things to consider when burning DVDs..... there are many more things to learn but this is a good start! If you want to read more and learn more then this is a good thread to read: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136 I hope this helps you out! good luck. And welcome to Afterdawn!
hi thanks for this - managed to burn 3 DVDs!! two problems though!! 1. each DVD when playing back in my recorder has a clicking niose all the way through it! 2. each DVD will not play on my PC! Any ideas? thanks (again!) zism
1. how did you burn the DVD..... what DVD were you copying or was it those MPG file you were talking about for convertion. 2. what media did you use? 3. what speed did you burn to? 4. and does the DVD play in your stand alone DVD player for your TV?
hi 1.I managed to burn .avi files, though I do still have .mpg files I would like to burn! 2.I used Nero vision 3.Not sure what speed - never got an option! 4.Yes they will play in my stand alone DVD player but not in my PC zism
You still didn't tell me what media you are using....... and if it works in your TVs DVD player and not on your PC.... what's the program you are using to play the DVD? Sometimes you have to go to PREFERENCES and set the media files to DVD compliant. Here is a guide for you to use to convert your AVI or MPG files: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946 If you follow this guide you will have better success!
I have now tried burning following these instructions but still have the same problem (clicking noise). Any more suggestions? thanks zism
are you converting AVI files to DVD? These AVIs..... they were downloaded from the internet? maybe you should consider the AVI is corrupted while downloading..... it's called Web Sh_T!
@zism and IHoe, I have also experienced a "clicking" noise...really loud when I burned an AVI file (one that I had done successfully with 7.0.8.2) with a later version of Nero7...I reverted to 7.0.8.2 and successfully re burned, obviously some setting according to Karen...she may be able to help. To see if the AVI files are corrupt then try the free trial of ConvertX. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd.cfm
@Gwendolin............ that was going to be my next thing..... use a stable version of Nero 7: Nero7 Clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install a later version of Nero, 7.0.8.2 or 7.2.7.0 or 7.5.1.1 all available from this site 7.0.8.2 http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 7.2.7.0 http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?1493 7.5.1.1 http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?1584
yes I am converting AVI files to DVD and some are downloaded from the internet and some are not. They play fine on my PC it's just when I burn them I get the clicking noise. What do you mean by a "stable" version of Nero? I have only just purchased this .... surely it should be stable?!!
By stable they mean with no bugs... Some software, in the manufacturers haste to get it out, release software that is buggy and unstyable causing burn problems. They then relase lots of updates fixing these problems... Any of the version listed are stable. Just save your serial number, run the Nero 7 clean tool (found @ google) and then reinstall new version with your serial
okay ... slightly confused now (no smart comments please) - this tells me to have my Nero 6 serial number ...... I have Nero 7! <<confused>>
Do the following, Uninstall your present version of Nero, run this clean tool, http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install version 7.5.7.0 from here, click on the green arrow http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/ you will need the serial number that you purchased....ignore any reference to Demo version.
