hello i am a newbie here and i no nothing about burning with nero what i would like to find out is about several things with nero i am using a samsung dvd burner ts-h552u with firmware us06,i have nero start smart oem which came bundled with the burner it has nero oem, nero vision express show time, nero recode,nero back it up, nero cover design, and nero tool kit.i burnt a legal free dvd on my pc and it would not play on my stand alone dvd player which is a nec ndv-23.it kept showing disc error i then took the dvd to my daughters friends house and it played okay no problems.so then i went and done some google searches and found some possibe answers apparently my dvd player needs to burn in dvd rom and with vision express, you cannot. (i dont no if thats true) it has to be book typed now i no nothing about booktyping i also heard that your dvd burner has to allow you to booktype i dont no if it does or what i hope someone can get me out of this messs..i am in australia..tia...col..
Hi cryoung Your dvd player accepts both the + and - format so your good there. The problem may be that it doesn't like the media you are using. Which are you using like - Sony +R 8x? What was the burn speed? That too can play a factor w/ some players. May need to take it down a notch. Your drive doesn't support booktyping so you wouldn't be able to booktype the +R media to DVD-Rom. This increases compatibility w/ players esp ones older ones that don't support the +R format. binkie7 thank's for your help just my luck (wont booktype) the dvd disc i used was lg.1-8x dvd-r.burn speed 4 they burnt ok they just wont play on mine,but they play on my daughters friends player ok.you say theres a firmware update do i just download it or let it run from the website. i really dont no anythink about d/lding firmware or how to install it. can you guide me.also i am using nero start smart as you would no it has vision express. i am used to using nero burning rom 5.and nero start smart does not have it.can i get nero burning rom 5 without all the bundled stuff that comes with it because start smart has shotwime and other on it. stuff can i install nero burning rom 5 wilst having start smart
Hmmm those lg's don't use the best manufacturers. Looks like that the main problem here on that player. Switch your media to Verbatim or made in Japan only Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Those are very compatible w/ burners and players usually. You also have -R discs and they can't be booktyped - only +R can be. Now for the firmware download both US07 and the flash utility. Click on the link above - each of these 2 downloads will be a hyperlink to take you straight to the download. The firmware for this drive is actually a bin file that you will need the flash utility to run. You can download both to your desktop. Have no discs in the drive and no programs running. Open sfdnwin (the flash utility) make sure the right drive is picked next to 'drive'. Top left corner you'll see an icon w/ a folder in it - click that on & pick the US07 firmware then click open. The utility should now flash/update your firmware version. Will usually give a message saying done and to reboot. Reboot the pc for the firmware to take affect. The whole process does not take long - few mins maybe. That's odd that the oem disc didn't come w/ Burning Rom - most do though I have seen some that didn't though not often. You can't run 2 versions of Nero at the same time so here's some suggestions. Update your Nero to this version - 6.6.0.18: Package 1 (burning rom, express, toolkit, etc. http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 (recode, vision, showtime etc) http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe. See if that does the trick. In SmartStart BurningRom should be the 1st one listed under applications. If it doesn't and you still have your serial # from 5 then click on the icon in the bottom right hand corner that has a flame in it. Go to the serial # tab - put the serial from 5 in.

No problemo cryoung Your Nero 5 serial is probably still in the registry somewhere if you want to try & find it. Here's one Nero Tool that may help: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/AskNero.html Or go you can look in the registry (just be careful - can give you instructions if you like) But your Nero 6 serial will work with these downloads.

Yes burning rom is in that link. So w/ your oem version burning rom is listed in Smart Start? Firmware update is not that bad really If you ever want to give it a shot let us know (may need to sooner or later)
binkie7 no there is no burning rom on my oem disc from samsung all it has is nero medium player, showtime, nero toolkit,vision express2, user guide, nero start smart,nero oem nero express 6.no mention of nero burning rom..
Ok you can give installing the update a shot and see it that does the trick. You can also use Express to most of the things you would w/ Burning Rom.
binkie7 thanks for reply.yes vision express does, but it burns udf 1.05 and my home dvd player nec.ndv-23 wont play udf 1.05 it plays udf 1.02 you can't change udf in vision express or nero express you can only change in nero burning rom.so thats why i must have nero burning rom..col...
What are you trying to burn - like the file format that it's in. Have you tried updating Nero w/ package 1? Another opinion is to try ImgBurn (free) to burn the files.
binkie7 everythings fine now i updated nero from your link and used nero express not vision express and changed a setting in nero express options to dvdrom instead of automatic and it burnt ok and it plays on my standalone player.much appreciated for your time and help..col.
