i have a 40gb ipod laying around. i was wondering if i could get it apart and use the harddrive inside the ipod as an external harddrive? anybody done this before or is the set up different from the ipod's harddrive to a laptops harddrive?
personally i wouldnt reccomend using this as a primary drive. If you mean you want to use it to boot from im assuming? basically what youd have to do is set up your bois to allowe booting from USB some bios's allow it and some dont. If your just wanting to use it a secondary HD all you need to do is connect it to your computer and use it as normal after formatting. youll want to format it in FAT32 is your using windows
yea im using it as a seconddary, basically like a jumpdrive or so, but where could i get the proper cable connectors? cuz the plug in the back of the ipod hdd is a bit different as i remember
the length of the harddrive is 3 inches, the width is 2 1/8th inches, thickness is 3/8's of an inch, the connector has 46 pins on it. if you want i can try and get picture of the hard drive its self
check this link, middle of the screen somewhat near bottom, will see article of adapting 3.5" hd for ipod use. http://www.command-tab.com/2005/03/13/ipod-super/ also read this. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=120964
