Quote: I personally think the GDDR5 version of the 4850 will easily be overclocked to 4870.
As far as I know the HD 4850 only comes with GDDR3. ATI had considered releasing a GDDR5 version but decided not to so unless there is a new card out there that I haven't heard of (which is always possible) then only the HD 4870 has GDDR5 memory. It would be nice touch because I would be ordering right now. LOL

I haven't heard any mention of a GDDR5 version of the 4850 either, other than here. I'm also interested though... :)

Well yes, since that's all the 4850 is, and with GDDR3 not GDDR5. There's still a stark contrast between the price points of the two cards, a middle match might be nice...

At the right price, the 9600GT is still a fantastic card. But for only a bit more, you can get an 8800GT which is ~30% faster in newer games like Crysis. Maybe 40FPS average vs 30FPS.
For the current mid-range though. I recommend the 4850 if you can get it.

Price is in Canadian.

Still a crappy nforce SLI motherboard, universally they're not very good, 650i especially.
Rest of the parts are alright, but the PSU might be a bit iffy, FSP units are known for very high ripple levels. For that price you may as well get a Corsair HX.

I actually did check off the HX 620, but that FSP Group one appeared..twice, the site is a bit messed.
I also replaced the 9600GT with a 8800GT.
I have no idea in the world of MB which ones are good. I have a 790i however and it OC's great, it supposed to be loads more stable than the 780i, but its tech specs only show DDR3 instead of DDR2 from the 780i. The have been good with the BIOS updates as they are on there fifth revision since release (P02 to P06).
This one includes everything, as a friend of mine wants a whole new setup. Price is CDN,

Yeah SLI boards aren't that good.
Oh and I think the 8800GT is around 130 at Canada Computers.

Looks like you fixed it. Still, Intel boards cant overclock AT ALL.
Try something like the EP35-DS3L or EP45-DS3R.

The 790i is better than the 780i but still not necessarily free from issues. I would vote an intel chipset board over it, but not the one you've chosen, Intel boards aren't very good, and that one is ANCIENT. Literally, several years out of date. Apart from that, everything in your revised list is good, though you can get an HD4850 graphics card for only $15-$20 more than the 8800GT and it's nearly twice as fast, so I'd recommend getting that. I also dislike Benq's cheap, nasty monitors. Sure they may get the job done, but for how long, and at what cost for picture quality?

I just happened to be using an older machine this eve, which has a max of 1024x768, hence i noticed one of the screengrabs (on this page anyway) was waaaaay over 1024x768 so i changed it to a link.
Let's please keep any future screengrabs to that size plus that's still the standard webpage standard resolution. Thanks

Well now that I've changed it up, things have gotten more expensive :(. Most of this stuff is cheaper than it shows though because of mail-in rebates, but I actually go down to the store when I buy the stuff, so I get it on everything.
I changed up from the benq, but I don't know if it was worth it. I know benq are the shitty ones, but they do the job. I have a syncmaster myself and it's great.

Maybe, likely not. I am building a budgetwise comp for a buddy of mine. Once he gives me the money I will make a certain one, he is getting close.
I am pretty good a getting most things, cept Motherboards anddd maybe graphics cards, since I don't see any problems with the 8800's...But yeah they def aren't at the best part of the curve for $ vs Performance apparently. Power supplies aren't a strength of mine either, although I do understand the effect of ripples as it is what I study. The 620 HX looks to be good for him whent he time arises.
