i just bought dark messiah might & magic collectors edition & when i install this game, it says steam has to be installed, which is fine.
the game installs, but when i log into steam & add the serial number to my account, the game downloads in steam also..

do i need to download the game through steam as well as instaling it from the disk?
im not sure about this as ive never used sream before.
i know that if you buy a game through steam you need to download it from steam, but i thought with me buying the game from a shop, i would only need to install the game, install steam & when i play multiplayer, i would need steam..

can anyone clear this up for me?

    thanks

when you bought the game, the entire install isn't on the disk, as the game is around 7 GB in total. Part of the game is installed and steam will download the rest, and afterwards, will automaticly install any updates that come out for the game. I hope you dont have 56k.

hmm, but ive installed this game twice due to an internet problem.
the first time, i didnt create a new account in steam but
was able to play single player (didn't try multiplayer) without creating a steam account.

the second time, i didn't try to play it
& created a new account in steam.
it said i was finished installing the game, but when i went into steam & put in the serial for the game, it said i had just activated dark messiah...
then it asked if i wanted to download & install the game.

i take it i need steam to play multiplayer?
if i have to download part of the game via steam,
is there a way i can save whatever it downloads to my external hard drive & instead of downloading it all time, just copy & paste
it to where it has to go?

i have a 4 meg broadband connection, how long will it take to d/load?
    thanks for the help

it wont take long, and you dont have to keep steam running until its done. it will just start downloading whenever you start steam and if you quit it will resume where you left off next you start it.
