On DSL 512/256 I have seen speeds up to 50kb/s and average speeds around 20kb/s. If you stick to the better sites such as suprnova.org and bytemonsoon.com you are unlikely to find fakes - I have not yet stumbled across a fake. You can get BitTorrent from here:

If average speed is around 20kb/s, then why am i at 2kb/s at supernova.org and as i'm downloading it says my upload speed is 4kb/s. I'm downloading blahhhhhhhhhhhhh (698 MB). Why is it going so slow. I downloaded Bit Torrent from the site above. There was also other files there such as blahhhh and blahhhhhhhhhh. Do I need to download those too???

#1 you should read the rules regarding discussing pirated materials on this forum.
In answer to? Are you operating behind a router, this will slow down your download, the reason being more ports have to be configured in order to connect to more peers for faster downloading. Also when you first start downloading on the torrents, the speed will start out slow and will gradually pick up.
You dont need Red Hat or mandrake installed

If i remember correctly, bittorrent-3.2.1 is the official client whereas BTpp-0.5.4-bin is the unofficial client. I've heard plenty of good and bad stuff about the unofficial client so I use the official one until all the mess is worked out.

Oh BitTorrent sux bad!! I've been trying to download a 700Mb file from it for 4days now. I'm on 128k adsl, which equates to about 15KB/sec. Constantly I'm uploading to some losers at about 12-14KB/s, and only getting 3-4KB/s download. Its happening all the time.

Oh this program is lame! I'm on a restricted 10Gig limit a month, and already this has wasted about 1.6gig and still going!

Anything I can do to increase the download? Otherwise I'm ditching this bandwidth waster :P

Also how exactly does this program work anyway? Who am I actually connected to? Not a very intuitive interface, with no settings at all.

#23 04 Aug 2003 @ 13:51
Sorry, its worse than that, I download at 0-4KB/sec and it usually hovers around 1-2KB/sec
I've seen it go up to 7KB/s once :P

#24 05 Aug 2003 @ 10:34
On bit torrent you have to upload to download, if you dont upload u dont download, simple as that! lol
#25 05 Aug 2003 @ 16:09
Well I have to say their thinking and their algorithm is warped as. :p 2.5GB upload for only 700mb download. Where is the maths or logic in that? Stupid bittorrents, I'm boycotting it :)
