Is it possible to use a ps2 drive on a computer? I have a crappy old ps2 and have nothing to do with it.
bilboatCB, what type of interface connectors does the drive use? is the data connector a 40 pin & the power a 4 pin as used on your pc hd? rudsta816, if you don't know than why did you post that!? post padding??
a PS2's DVD drive is a serial interface not an IDE, it could be converted and used but the time and effort exceed the cost of a DVD-ROM drive so why bother? kc
Why? To kill time why else. I have nothing better to do and plenty of time so why not. And im a pack rat so it will clear up some space for me.
Then by all means have at it, i used to have a pin out of the DVD drive but after a quick digging through some old PS2 info discs i can't find it. you may be able to locate it online, good luck. kc
hmm, that still wouldnt be able to emulate ps2 games properly right?cause then i would have a use for MY busted up ps2..

the DVD drive has no emulation features, it simply reads data from a disc as it spins, converts it to a digital signal and feeds it serially down a cable to a decoder and processor. no PS2 emulator will function properly without having a functional PS2 BIOS as part of the emulation software and while i haven't had a necessity to try any new one that may have popped up in the past many yrs, most of the programmers of old never took the time to study what actually goes on with the original BIOS to get an emulation that worked glitch free. most work, not slow and not fast but mostly half-fast'd kc
