I just finished putting together my new pc and it comes on for about 10 seconds and turns off and the cpu is super hot. please help I have this processor: http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sspec=sl8pp or http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sspec=sl9cg And i have this MOBO http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=0&model=1126&modelmenu=1 also here are some pictures
Make sure that the heatsink and fan are secured to the CPU. Sounds like its over heating and causing the system to shut down. The images show that the heatsink isnt even attached to the CPU. I am hoping thats just to show the CPU.
Its important when your applying thermal grease to only apply a dab of it about the size of a b.b. because too much will actually hinder heat transfer. In my opinion your best/safest option would be to go to newegg.com and buy Artic Silver 5 thermal paste, Thermal Grease cleaner to remove the old paste, and while your their to buy a new heatsink. Your cpu is a socket LGA 775 so make sure your new heatsink is built for it.
