    Hi.

I just ran a "scan" on my C Drive (the primary one like eveyone else)with GRISOFT AVG Anti-Virus & And Software 7.5 (the anti-Malware package, both plus editions).

In GRISOFT AVG Anti-Virus Test Centre, I see several files marked s "Change":

    Files Results/Infection Location
    kernel32.dll Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernel32.dll
    user32.dll Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\user32.dll
    shell32.dll Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll
    ntoskrl.exe Change C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrl.exe

I'm not sure what this suppose to mean. These is a big green square with a tick in the top-right corner of AVG Anti-Virus Test Centre.

AVG Anti-Spyware makes no comments like this.

I also have Bitdefender Internet Security 9 (BIS9) which also includes Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware. BIS9 makes no such comments either.

I also noticed that when scanning with BI9, I see "detected:[name of virus/spyware]" in the result but it doesn't do anything about: it doesn't delete them or quarantine them or even heal them. So these "detected" stuff are just left there on my PC? The only thing BIS9 can do at the moment is ask me to send these files to their lab after the scan has finished.

Can anybody explain what has happen, if it's good or bad & do I need to take further steps for the sake of my computer's health & security?

    These are my PC's Specs:
    Computer
    -Pentium 4
    -CPU 2.66Ghz
    -DDR RAM 512MB
    -Physical Address Extension

    O/S
    -XP Professional
    -Version 2002
    -SP2

My PC Security Info (as stated above):
-Bitdefender Internet Security 9 [Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware but no Firewall]
    -AVG7.5 Plus Anti-Virus [no Firewall]
    -AVG7.5 Anti-Spyware Plus [no Firewall]
-Windows Firewall (the one that came with XP I guess)

    Thanks.

That is nothing to worry about. 'Change' only means that file was changed sine the last time it was scanned.

Could you give the name and file path?

If you suspect your computer is infected, please post your HijackThis log.

You say you're using the Windows firewall...
Windows firewall does not have enough protection. I strongly recommend you get a different one. Here are some offered for free.

    Zone Alarm Free
    Agnitum Outpost Firewall
    Kerio Personal Firewall

Remember to turn off Windows firewall if it is running.

    Hi,

I'm not sure what the first link is about...? I was directed to a "cashback community" site, but yes, the second link will get you the latest version of AVG. Of course, you'll need to update it to get the latest definitions.
