I have a Lynksys Broadband Firewall Router. I had to do a system restore on my HP Pavillion and my router worked fine. The other computer on the LAN is an older Compaq with newer parts and it works fine. The problem is coming from my HP and they were no help and tech support.
So, anyway, both computers have connection to the internet with no problem. The problem I'm having is that neither computer sees the other on the LAN. We cannot establish a connection at all between the computers. We've gone through the Windows troubleshooter and the Lynksys troubleshooter and I'm on the phone with Lynksys Tech support right now. Please offer any info you may have to help me.

    Thanks~

Can you confirm the operating systems on the PCs.
Also can you even ping the other PC from each end.
Go to start/run and type in command or cmd (op sys dependant)<cr>
    Then type in cd\<cr>
    Now type ipconfig <cr>
and see what IP address and gateway is assigned at each PC.
Now type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (address of gateway)<cr>, then ping the address of the PC at the other end and confirm you get a response.
Depending on operating system, depemds how you do sharing.
    In XP its very easy.
Just right click c drive and open sharing & security
Then click on blue writing about understanding the risk, then tick box in network sharing section, share name should just come up as c
Apply this and away you go, it can then be seen in the other PC under netwok places.
You can do the same on any other device on a PC such as a printer, then just load drivers on other PC and then add printer.

Thanks so much. I got smart and shut off my antivirus and tried it and it works now. But I have to talk to Symantec to find out why my antivirus is causing me to not be able to talk to the other computer in the house. See if there's a patch or a setting I missed. Thanks for ur help.
