    Hi ozy5308
    Here's a few suggestions:
    Nero Version: 6.6.0.8
Update Nero to 6.6.0.18. May or may not help the burn problem - but the last good version of 6.
    Package 1
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

    Package 2 (recode & vision)
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Burner's firmware is update to date and using good media. Any problem w/ these Sony 16x before?

    Burn process failed at 8x
Max of this drive - try 4x speed and see how that goes.

Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB)

It's failing towards the end of the burn so reduce you target size to 4360. Run these files thru Recode to do that - you can set custom there and type in 4360. It's in the first screen under 'fit to target'.

    thanks blinki7-

no i have never had a problem with these before. Have done maybe 250 of these disks with no problem. I have tried all speeds. from 2x, 4x, 6x, and 8x and they all fail. Once in a while i can get 1 to work then the next 15 fail. I will try a different version but like I said I have had this version since it came out with no problems. Thanks again

Give the update and reduced target size a go. See how that does.

I have the same drive - older drive but still works though I did put in in another pc and replaced it's spot with a newer LiteOn. So I don't use it as much any more.
May just be time to replace it if these don't work - alot cheaper now then when I bought this drive.

All good things must come to an end :)

But eventually the laser or other parts of the drive start to wear down - just through normal use. Like anything else they just cease to perform as they once did.

Another test would be to swap this drive in another pc. Fails there too then pointing to the drive.

May or may not help but good to do on a regular basis anyhow - do a disc cleanup, defrag and run a registry cleaner. You can do a disc cleanup & registry clean w/ ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options.

Darn - I've guess the 3rd time wasn't a charm in this case.

You're still getting a Write error and this SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND in the log.

    Do the maintenance bit too.
Try this drive in another pc if 1 is available.

One more opinion is use 8x media for the drive. If you are in the US you can get Taiyo Yuden at supermediastore.
All I use in this drive other than some 8x or 16x Verbatims.

I'd stick w/ LiteOn. If you're in the US check out newegg.com and the SHW-160P6S. Around 30'ish.
I have that one too - and it's doing a good job.

At some point they do go - your current one has had a good run.

I'm still thinking it's on it's way out and time for a new one.

So the only other options are still:
Try different media - 8x if you can
Swap drives in another pc and see if it works in that one.

A few more but may not do it either:
Check all the burners connections - like power and ide. May want to swap them too (try a different power connector & try another ide cable)

Blow some compressed air in the burner or run a dvd lens cleaner thru it.

well i fixed that. I completely unistalled nero with its clean tool and then re-installed a different version. I bought some verbatim dvdr's and they worked great but they dont play in my dvd player so i tried my sony's again and for now its working. but i did order a new burner from new egg.

Glad to hear you got it working again :)

I think you'll be happy w/ the new burner too.
You might want to consider leaving the older LiteOn in to rip with (they have good ripping speeds) and replace the ASUS w/ the new one.
