so i go to turn on my laptop (compaq) yesterday and i suddenly get a black screen with a blue box asking for my drive lock password. i never set one so i have no clue what the password is. i tried every passowrd i commonly use but nothing worked. from what i understand it is next to impossible to remove the password if you dont know it.
is there any way to unlock my harddrive? all of my school stuff is on there and im pretty much screwed without it.
    thank you

i find it hard to beleive that your laptop mysteriously gave itself a password...thats not something a computer will do on its own. either someone else is using your laptop or you've bought a stolen laptop...

that would be one hell of a virus that could do that. I could see a virus putting a lock on the HD in windows, but a password on it as the computer boots up? pretty amazing...lol
