I cant seem to see one but as this is the up and coming area of home entertainment it seems to me there should be.

Trying to find a truly multi format one is extremely difficult and it seems to me what is needed is one which which will play all standard formats from your network - wmv, mpg (all), AVI (all inc DivX) and of course DVD's either from discs in drives on a pc OR from virtual drive mounted ISOs. Another really good plus feature would be the ability to access player software on a PC as well so that obscure formats could be played albeit in lower quality. Although I dont have plans to upgrade to HDTV I guess the ability to output this as well would be good - does anyone know if any company does such a package for under $350 - I have a looked at a few but all it seems have a different but limited range of file formats

It also occurs to me that Networked media players are a strong argument for re-openining debate with the film industry about the rights to copy legally owned DVDs onto a hard disc based digital library of some sort - this could in fact, with the right software, be safer for them as I am sure they could find a way to allow you to write to a hard drive as back up without being able to copy to a DVD (as long as it gave you a choice about compressing the files and/or saving just saving the main feature

however, this thread doesn't really seem to be a suggestion for AD...i don't think it belongs here.

Thats fine - is there a clue here as to which thread it has been transported to??

Thanks for the one reply so far - though when I looked on the website it seemed to be priced at $199 which is a tad steep for something which doesnt include a hard drive and I am not sure also that it will play WMV files - most play WMA files and many play DiVX but for some reason not WMV which for me offers the best compromise between file size and quality.

Netgear appear to offer a wireless product in the US which is set to sell here for around £160 ($300) There are much cheaper wireless media players at around £120 but all of them exclude wmv! (OK its a microsoft format but I like it)

just to try to clear up what i'm guessing is a little bit of confusion on your end, this wasn't teleported to any thread....what you created was a thread. it was moved to a different forum. you will see which forum any given thread is in if you scroll up the page a bit and look to the top right of the very first comment on the page.

the link put up gives a list of formats the device plays...i'm pretty sure wmv was one of them.

Thanks again - no WMV wasnt listed under video formats - just about everythging else but! Odd as it has WMA under the audio formats.
However I dont think it is available in the UK, and I am really looking for a wireless network solution as I have wmv home movies on numberous drives I want to be able to access from my TV

However I do appreciate the effort
