Hi, Are you annoyed as your Lite-On SOHW-822S (Or other version, or Sony drive) doesn't support DVD-R - Only DVD+R/W? Then use this guide to Cross patch your DVD drive to A newer onw which may support DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW!! Check this for compatibility and more detailed help Here.

    Dangers of Crosspatching!
Yes, like everything, There is a downside to crosspatching, you void your warranty on your DVD Drive. Also, if you mess up you can ruin your DVD drive. Make sure you follow my instructions carefully.

    How does crosspatching work?
Crosspatching basically uninstalls software your drive uses to burn/read disks, and installs software of a later version. Sometimes when you crossflash you get a way better Drive and you will never regret it. so lets get started.

Step 1: Backup your current firmware/software
Ok, If you want be able to fix your drive if you completely mess up your DVD drive it would be very wise to Backup your Firmware and software of it.
1.)Download a tiny piece of very important software called LtnFW here .
    2.)Extract and run program
3.)Select your burner from the dropdown box.

    4.)Tick the Backup option.

5.)Select where you want to save it by pressing browse and making a filname.

6.)Click Start and wait for it to finish, it will take around 20 seconds.

You have not Backedup your software/firmware of your DVD drive.

Step 2.) Updating your Drive from Older Version to Newer and Better Version!
1.)This is fairly easy, simply download Crossflasher for the drive you want to crossflash to, research the compatibility first. Download from
    here
2.)extract to a file and run the model of your drive.the model wanted to patch to.patched-cf.
3.)Select your drive from the dropdown box and it should say it will be Updated from: your drive to the drive you want to crossflash to.
4.)Make sure all other apps are closed, and no disks are in the drive and click update.
5.)When this is done you might here your drive click once loudly, dont worry.
6.)Reboot your computer if you want, this is not compulsary.
7.)If you have Nero run Nero Info Tool, this will tell you if you have successfully Updated your drive if so you will see this:

If you are upgrading from Lite-on 822s to 832s (like me) you can upgrade the Firmware to the same as mine (CG5J) using this guide Here.
Done! You have saved yourself £50 or $100 on a new DVD drive! If you hav any questions please ask on this thread.
Credit for all the software goes to C0deKing/Codeguy.

You should PM a Mod about it, rather than put it in the forums.
