Right im using an Maxtor Diamond plus 9 200GB sata as a storage drive. Had it for almost 6 months and been working fine till i sold my soul and tryed Vista RC1 grrrrr. Anywho sufficed to say it screwed up so i had to reinstall XP pro sp2... anywho that pc totally screwed up now my GPU went so anyways ive connected that Hard Drive to this laptop via a USB device first it says "windows could not load installed for the volume. contact your hardware vender for assistance". we all know how useful they can be lol. right it doesnt show the drive in My Computer, so i went to Computer management/disk management to see if i can select the drive letter still dont show in my computer when i try to access it says format now i have important stuff i wish to keep on here so that my last option at it. when i click properties the file systen is RAW? okay so please if anyone can help me solve this without a full format id be forever in your dept. thanks for anyhelp thanx dave king
Knoppix is a live boot operating system, meaning you can run Linux without installing it. Boot your computer with Knoppix with the drive attached, and see if it can recognize it. You may or may not need to mount the drive. After this you should be able to pull the information off the drive onto some sort of backup.
