i've got a 40 gb Hard drive on my laptop but under my computer local C: disk it says 31.1 is the capacity. i know the drive needs some memory to run or whatever, but isn't almost 25% a lot?
Might be the 7% thing - In other words it's like this there's a small difference in how microsoft /windows and Hard drive Manufacturers rate hard drives size ! To wit the difference amounts to 7% of your hard drive space . This maybe what you are experiencing. Keep in mind too that your recycle bin also uses hard drive space as well you can reduce the amount of this space or set your computer to delete the trash files completely instead of storing them in the recycle file but then you lose the ability to change your mind should you accidently delete something you need or wanted . You can also go through your files and delete older files you no longer need or want ! Wav files ( audio ) and Various formats of video can take up hard drive space rather quickly - Burn them to dvd or cd if possible and then delete from hard drive . These tips should give you more space on your hard drive ! whether or not it's all your missing now or enough I really can't tell you ! But there is always the option of a bigger Laptop hard drive & or an External Hardrive - If your laptop has usb & or Firewire ports on it . Hope this helped somewhat hookem10 & meery Xmas !
you should be seeing about 38 gig not 31 gig. possible the hd is partitioned into 2 or 1 partition is hidden. see what the bios shows for size of hd.
yeah i went under administrative tools i think and 4.6 gigs or something are partitioned and 4.2 of that is taken up. It was like that from stock from dell any idea what it could be?
