I want to get a upconverting dvd player for my tv. But, I have an old hd tv with only component and no hdmi. is there a way i can get an adapter for the hdmi port on those upconverting dvd players? Or maybe theres is a dvd player that can upconvert via component? what do you guys think?

No. You must have a TV that is HDCP compatible (via DVI or HDMI) to use the upconversion feature with copy protected movies.

check videohelp.com. there are a dozen or so players that with a simple one minute "adjustment" can be made to upconvert over component.

Also keep in mind that if you back up your dvd's one nice side effect is that the flag that prevents upconverting through component even on most players that are unaltered, works fine.

So use backups or get a player that can be adjusted.

    Very incorrect. see above.
