I have a maxtor 300gb External Hard drive which i have been using for a couple of years now. I have a problem when i go to access a folder on the hard drive. i keep getting message "G:\mp3 music is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an i/o device error" I can access all the other folders no problem. Can somebody help please. All my mp3 files are stored here. Thanks
your harddrive is probably corrupt, reformatting would solve this, but at the loss of your information. i recommend running a disk scan in search of errors, that may fix the problem.
Hi. I recently bought a 200 gig maxtor one touch II on e-bay. It is unlocked and "ready to go", but when all is installed, it is not showing up under "My Computer", and i am unable to use it. Can anyone help me to get the damn thing to work?! Thanks in advance. Mairead
@ maireadry Try uninstalling the software that came with the drive and reinstalling it. Unplug the USB cable also. Re-install the software first and then plug in the USB cable..the software will search for the device along with windows. Then you should be good to go...I hope. Ebay makes me nervous especially buying drives off of their. Hope this helps.
I would go along with that. You should install the software before you attempt to connect the maxtor. Then connect the maxtor, switch it on and it should be ok. If you connected it before you installed the software it might not work. Check that the maxtor is on..you should see a blue light. If it doesnt work try it on another computer to see if it works.
Thanks for the advice, I have tried all that allready, and nothing seems to work. I can get the drice installed, open the security window and enter the pasword, but after that, i can get no further. The driver light is on to show it is connected and powered on, but i cannot get into the drive via my computer to get files on or off it. I did contact the person I bought it from and she says it worked for her ok, and she tried to help me to get it to work, but no joy. I also contacted Maxtor, but they were as much use as a boat in the desert!! If anyone can give me any further advice, please do. Many thanks, Mairead.
@ maireadry And your sure windows is recognizing the device? Its in the device manager as well. How about when you click on Safely Remove Hardware devices on the right toolbar...is the device in there. Check those again to be sure. I would even try plugging it into another USB device in your computer. If you have another system try the install on that as well. I've seen cases where a USB port didn't like the device that was plugged into it and the device wouldn't work. Something as simple as that could be the issue. Is it a recently installed USB card? Is the USB card 2.0? Any damage to the cables or power source? No crimps or cuts in the cables? I acutally have this drive and haven't had any major issues with it. I know the connectivity separates if the drive sits too long with no activity..but you turn it off and back on again and it reconnects. I recently had an issue similar to this but I disable the security lock feature in the maxtor software and was able to access the drive that way? Have you tried that? Thats really all I can think of off of the top of my head. Yes..Maxtor is extremely useless...you're on your own. Google the drive as well and see if there are any other suggestions out there. I'm very curious now.
Sorry for the double post... One more thing...if the drive was used...ask the previous owner what she did to remove the previous data. It could be a formatting issue also.
@ maireadry you need to go to: control panel administrative tools computer managment storage disk managment then format your drive before it will appear under my computer.
Hi there. Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I tried to reformat my maxtor as you told me to do, and discovered that there was no patitions on the drive at all, and this tiny little reason is the reason the drive would not work for me! Long story short, I made a partition out of the whole disk, and managed to format it, and guess what, it worked!!!!! So, I owe you big time!! Is there anywhere I can send the price of a pint?! Sincere thanks once again, and now I am off to sell my Maxtor, any takers?!?!?! Just kidding! Cheers for all the help. Mairead.
