Hi, I got a new WD MyBook and installed (on a laptop) it and changed the file system to NTFS. The problem I am having with it is that I cannot disconnect the device without turning off my computer. Everytime I try to disconnect it the message always says that "the device is busy and cannot be stopped. Try again later" (somewhere around those lines), even though I am not using the drive. Is there a known cause/solution to this? and is it bad to just turn the device off without using the unplug/eject hardware function when I know it is not in use? Thanks.
u might b using by a background process maybe ure hearing music from it have some files open or u have a virtual image mounted from the hd
The trouble with this is that I didn't put any files on it yet. It is still empty, with the exception of the WD files it came with. Thanks for your help though. Any more? Thanks in advance!
open up task manager connect your device watch what starts up when you want to disconnect go to process and stop it BUT are you sure there are no programs using it ? I stop my portable hardrive all the time by just turninhg it off
I checked my processes list and nothing started up. I transferred some files and checked again, still nothing. The disconnection process worked so I guess that it must be an intermittent error. If this happens again I'll just use the power button. Thanks for your help.
