ibm thinkpad 560z password help

    please help me i brought my daughter the above laptop for xmas ,shes stuck a password on it yesterday and today we cannot get on it!!!!shes so upset can anyone help me.its on a windows 98 se

    THANKS FOR THAT,WHICH IS THE BEST ONE TO USE DO YOU KNOW??IM CLUELESS!!!AND HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO GET IT ON THE LAPTOP,IVE GOT AN EXTERNAL CD DRIVE ON IT BUT COS IT WONT START UP TO GO ONTO WINDOWS ITS DISARMED THE CD DRIVE

    knock off the caps lock as is referred to as shouting which is a no no in the forum rules above. is the password in windows or in the bios at startup?

    yes the passwords the 1st thing seen,the password my daughter put on is saying its the wrong one!shes so upset.sorry bout caps by the way

    does the password prompt come up before you see the windows xp screen or after?

    if it's before you'll have to figure out how to reset the cmos, if not, you'll have to press F8 as the computer starts up and log in as the admin to take off the password your daughter put on it.

    its before the windows screen,any ideas how to get into the cmos?
