As someone said on a thread somewhere along the way, no one says thanks enough after they have had problems and received help from the forums. Well, Thanks all! Just 3 days after getting my PSP, I have successfully downgraded to 1.5 and upgraded to firmware 3.02OE-B on my TA-082. You guys rock! Thanks for the advice and tips.
To return the favor, I have written up an enhanced step by step guide for n00bz (me) to do the downgrade to 1.5. For the rest of the journey, I will let the other guides cover that ground. They do it fairly well.
Please note, the risks involved and realized you are doing this at your own risk. Don't flame me if you brick your PSP. These steps worked for me. I typed this up along the way as I followed less descriptive guides.
Any constructive feedback on instructions will be used to edit the guide.
First, full credits on this downgrader go to the following...
Dark-AleX, Mathieulh, and Harlyg
Files needed...
TA-082 Downgrader - http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/982
1.50 EBOOT Update - http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/4
2.71 HEN-D (Homebrew Enabler Rev. D) - http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/922
Also, yohex kindly put together a youtube video for us to help you follow the guide. Please see these links for it.
Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFbOZkuu9uQ
Part2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNMIUl3p06I
1. Attach the PSP and your pc to AC power. Remove any UMD disks. Do not place any disks in the drive at any time during the process.
2. Connect your PSP to your PC with the USB connector.
3. On the PSP, activate USB Mode.
4. Go to your PC. Backup all the files from you PSP memory stick by opening the Removable drive letter correspong to the PSP and copying the files some place safe on your PC, let's say C:\PSPbackup. You can use these later to restore gave data, etc.
5. Make sure your PSP is fully charged before proceeding.
6. On the PSP, Format your memory stick.
7. On the PC, extract the hend.rar to a folder, let's say C:\HEND
8. On the PSP, activate USB Mode again.
9. From the PC copy the contents of C:\HEND\MPRoot to your memory stick root. That's the Removable drive again.
10. Now back at the PSP, exit USB mode. And reboot the PSP.
11. Upon restart, go to Photo--->Memory Stick, press the DOWN button on left controller pad, wait 20 seconds and click the RIGHT button on the left controller pad with HEND selected.
--PSP should flash to an all blue screen for about 5-15 seconds then reboot.---
If it doesn't reboot and repeat step 11
12. On the PSP, activate USB mode.
13. On the PC, extract the files from ta082down.rar to C:\TA082Down and copy to your \PSP\Game directory on the removable drive.
14. Next, extract the files from Eboot.zip to C:\Eboot and copy to your \PSP\Game\Update directory on the removable drive.
15. Rename the EBOOT.PBP to Update.PBP
16. Back on PSP, exit USB and
17. Scroll down to TA082 IdStorage Change and press X, be sure you are at 100% power before doing this.
18. The program will run and ask you to press X. When it is done it exits to the XMB (looks like reboot).
19. Now go to Game---->Memory Stick and press X.
20. Execute the generic downgrade, which will show in the xmb as “Update X.YZ”
21. Let the program run and push X to restart PSP when done.
22. Cross your fingers.
One note, I just about had a heart attack when I followed the procedure myself. The original instructions say that the PSP should flash to a blue screen after the last step and reboot. Mine didn't. All I saw after the last step was a black screen. I instantly thought, "Shoot! Bricked!". I waited a few minutes and reset my PSP with a hard boot. A screen appeared after this briefly showing the PSP system fault reset and then the screen went black again. After a few moments of panicked reboots, I figured out the sound and cursor controls were still active and then tried hitting the screen button. The screen then appeared and after a check I found I was successfully at FW1.5. Whew!
Good luck, hope this helps some of you.

Nice tut, helps people who really don't understand some key terms. Like XMB and so.
You like me, but I had my psp for longer. In 3 days I went from tetris to ISOs on devhook to no devhook ISOs =D
And if you don't mind, can you include my youtube video guide?

Sorry, touran. unfortunately, you're guide wasn't out there when I was searching 12-25 - early 12/27. Wish it was, I would have saved myself some time. Still has a bit more steps so might help some n00bs like myself. Adding the youtube video guide from yohex. Nice add. Thanks yohex!

Well I just installed HEND + Devhook 0.51 like 3 days ago to start playing Killzone Liberation and I come back and see that 2.71 TA-082 peeps can go to 1.5 now!! I'm really happy now.
I need your guys help. Whats the best route right now?
Is it this??
1. Downgrade to 1.5
2. Upgrade to 3.02 OE-B (to play PSX games? like FF7!!!!?)
Please let me know. I want to get this done ASAP. I need all your guys help. I'm going to be reading what to do, what files to get, etc.
THANKS y'all!

Upgrade to 3.02 because then you don't have to run devhook to play ISOs anymore and you can play psx games and run homebrews, thats the power of 3.02
My bad misread your question. I don't quite understand what you mean by combo?
If you mean how to go about it to install 3.02 OE-A then thats the only route you have you can't upgrade to 3.02 OE-A without 1.5 or the custom 2.7? FW by DA
2.6 > 2.71 = 1.5 - 3.02> MY TA-082 MOBO 1.5> 3.02 OE-A > OE-B > 3.10 OE-A > 3.82 M33

yohex,
I cannot upgrade to 3.02 OE-B? I am reading feedback on PSP QJ about the downgrader and have read peeps have downgraded to 1.5 AND then upgraded to 3.02OE-B without problems.
Is this the latest and greatest route to do right now? THANKS

Im gonna use the easy installer by touran! I'll let you know how it goes.
And can I downgrade and have the AC adaptor plugged in as well? Should I take out the battery and have the AC plugged in only?
Or can I leave both in?

Leave both in and you can't run the program without 75% battery.
