I'm having problems with my router. If I put my psp or laptop right next to my router I only get around 50-60% signal strength. If I go about a metre away from the router the laptop or psp can't connect to it at all. I've had my router for around 2 years and it worked ok before. Any suggestions?
Check your router's settings to make sure a signal strength option has not been turned down. Also, make sure that there are no other 2.4Ghz devices operating near the router, such as cordless phones or microwaves. You're still getting a signal and internet connection, correct? Does your internet connection run at normal speed when you have the devices close up? Also think about where you have the router placed. If the signal has to go through walls, the building material of the house could be causing problems with the wireless signal.
I don't think the problem is caused because of interferance of other devices because my router is in the same location as it was when it was functioning properly before. The internet connection does run at normal speed when its close up and there aren't any walls to interfere with the connection when I'm about a metre away. I resetted my router and after that it stopped working.
It doesnt sound like a setttings issue. Could be something damaged with the router, but without playing with it myself I can't offer any more suggestions. Good luck.
