How to write PS2 games to DVD from a torrent download?

I recently downloaded Dark Cloud 2 through utorrent as I lost nearly all my ps2 games in a relocaton mixup and I want to put it on to DVD. I have DVD Decrypter and Nero, Sony DVD-R 4.7gb, swapmagic 3.6 and flip-top for my ps2 so I think I got all the tools. After downloading I'm left with a "winrar archive" file titled "Dark Cloud 2" (nothing confusing yet). I extracted the 2.4 gig file and it created a folder titled "Dark Cloud 2" in the same directory as the WinRAR file. Inside there is a "Darkcloud 2 MDS File" which is 5kb, another file titled Dark Cloud 2.I00 which is 4,194,302 kb and Dark Cloud 2.I01 which 139,426 kb. From here what should I do? Any links to guides or direct help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks =)

Hey,
I have had this problem as well. You should use Alcohol 120% and load the MDS file. It will then sort it out for you. There are some settings in Alcohol 120% that you may have to tinker with, I havent burnt a game in a while. I think there is a stick on how to burn games using Alcohol. The MDS file opens up what you want to burn, and if Im not mistaken and you burn it correctly, it should work. Also, what file type is the WinRAR archive, because if it is ISO you can burn that directly onto the DVD.
Hope I helped a bit,
Deadshadow

As far as I know most of the torrents I dl are .rar. I have the ISO unchecked under WinRAR settings so I assume it isnt an ISO. So is it possible to burn the MDS file with DVD Decrypter? Or is Alchohol 120 easier to use when it comes to the MDS files I get through torrents? Thanks for the help =P

I would say use Alcohol, but that is my poinion. I just think it is easier to use it because you can mount the image and burn away!

There should not be just one rar file.
Are you sure that it is not an ISO file?
What is the file size?
As above, if you have the ISO box checking in WinRAR as to what files it associates with, then ISO files will show up with the same WinRAR icon on your PC as normal RAR files will.
Uncheck the box and they will show with a different icon.

burn the MDS file to a disc, but that is one small PS2 game.
DVD DEcrypter can burn it or Alcohol 120%

you don't. If you used DVD Decrypter to copy a game disc it would make 2 files. An MDS and an ISO file. You could load either one and burn it.
Alcohol 120% should have no problems burning the file.
The thing i am wondering is if the game you downloaded is not
a DVD based game. If not then DVD Decrypter would not work (Alcohol 120% would)
But if it is a CD based games then you need to burn it to a CD
now that i think about it i really think it is a CD based game.

even though downloading ps2 games with torrents is illegal, i'll assume you got the torrent from a "friend" lol
ok so whatever type of file you got, you must convert to ISO. use any program like Power ISO, ISO Buster or Magic ISO. After its converted, open it up in DVD Decrypter, insert a blank cd/dvd and burn it. wallah

Not sure, I always burn on DVD-R, and they always work, so perhaps that is your safest bet. You probably cna burn onto RW, give it a shot, but I have never tried so i wouldn't know :P

ok, i see so many people now having the same problems
But there is no real easy solution for why they do not work.
It could be many different things and you will have to narrow down the problem. If you have an actual ISO image and burn it to disc then it should play in your PS2.
If you have an MDF & MDS file it is most likely a CD game and
needs to be burned to a CD.
here are some guides:
http://www.xtreme-source.com/tutorials-p...-rom-games.html
Nero-burning-rom-alcohol-120-a.html" target="_blank">http://www.xtreme-source.com/tutorials-p...ohol-120-a.html
http://www.xtreme-source.com/tutorials-p...er-imgburn.html
if you downloaded it then just start the tutorial where you burn the image and forget about the part where you are making the image from an original disc
Here are possible causes as to why your games will not work.
1. You are using low quality DVD's. I can not stress enough how important it is to use high quality DVD's and CD to do games on.
2. your burners firmware may be out of date and need to be updated
this will help with burn quality and media compatibility
3. you are not burning at a correct speed. If you use 4X as your burning speed it will generally work on 8X and 16X speed DVD's.
If you are using 4X speed DVD's then burn them at 1X, but really i think 4X speed DVD's are too slow and i do not really care for 16X either so i suggest a good 8X speed DVD.
I like DVD Decrypter the best for burning ISO files, a second choice for me would be IMGburn, which is the same program except that it can not read a game and make and ISO, it can only write the ISO to a blank DVD.

You only need to extract the first file in the sequence (usually named game.rar or game.r001/.001) and the rest of the files will be uncompressed automatically. If you need step-by-step instructions on how to extract RAR archives, see Hursty's WinRAR Guide. When the files have been extracted (uncompressed), a CD/DVD image file will be produced. The CD/DVD image is an exact digital replica of a CD/DVD, whereby all of the data is stored in one file to completely preserve the data structure and integrity of the CD/DVD. Some common disk image formats include: .BIN/.CUE, .IMG, .NRG, .MDF/.MDS, .CCD, and .IMG. These disk images can be burned using software such as Nero, Alcohol 120%, DVD Decrypter, and ImgBurn.

yes, you only need to extract the first one.
it will then extract them all building your ISO file.
Each little rar file is not an ISO, it is just a small part of one.
What WinRAR does is it takes an ISO file and breaks it down
into many smaller compressed parts making it easier and faster to
upload or download.
