I've got a Gateway FPD2185W monitor hooked up to a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT graphics card via a DVI cable. And after watching video for a short while, the monitor goes black with a little white/gray bar at the top or other times the screen gets jumbled (the screen is kind of split). Yet I can still hear the audio. I have to restart my computer to fix the problem. I can try to take a screenshot or video of the problem if necessary. All help appreciated. -Thanks
I guess that could be the problem, but I doubt it because it only happens when watching videos, and not if I just leave it on for a while or when I play games.
are you watching divx videos or dvds? some dvd decoders are crap and don't work well on some machines. i'd say download updates for your video drivers at nvidia.com then try a divx codec update if you're watching divx lastly i'd say look into a new dvd decoder (program that plays dvds) EDIT: how do you like your 7800 btw?? i just got a 7600GTOC and it's badass
It happens with all video file formats, not just DivX but I updated that codec anyways and updated my graphics card drivers. I've been using nero showtime and windows media player as my dvd decoders. I'll try another program. I'll see if these suggestions help. And I like my 7800 really well. -Thanks
Thanks. But none of that seemed to help. I never had this problem with my old monitor which was not widescreen and was connected via a vga cable to a dvi to vga converter connected to my graphics card. The only other change I made was installing a tv tuner pci card. Hope that may be of some help. -Thanks
i don't see why any of that would have made a difference (dvi to vga and tv tuner). What dvd decoder are you using now? Maybe try uninstalling your previous encoder and deleting all the files that it came with. I haven't had any problems with powerdvd try that one. Did you have an integraded video card before? Does your computer think the tv card is a video display device? Check your hardware manager to see if there's any conflicting hardware EDIT: Actually since this is a video issue paste your DXDIAG in your next post too. I might be able to tell what's wrong from there
Ok, I installed PowerDVD and I'll see how that goes. But I've been mostly playing video files, only some dvds, don't know if that makes a difference. Also, I never had an integrated video card, my 7800 is the only one ive ever had on my machine. There does not seem to be any conflicts with the hardware. Thanks for all your help. Here's my dxdiag:
it doesn't look like there's anything wrong... try taking out the video capture device, or lowering your resolution i can't really tell but is that a blue tooth device connected too?
Ok. Ya I connected a usb bluetooth receiver which i was gonna use for my phone but never really got it to work. -Thanks
