I want to start to play backups on my GameCube, but I hit a couple of roadblocks. First, I can't find Phantasy Star Online to use the PSO exploit, and second, the MAX Drive Pro has been discontinued. Now, I happened to come across this: http://us.codejunkies.com/shop/product.asp?c=US&cr=USD&cs=$&r=0&l=1&ProdID=389
It's something like the GameCube SD Card Adaptor. My question is, has anyone bought this thing? What are your impressions? Can you buy it anywhere else besides Datel's website?
Also, I wanted to edit some files in a GameCube game to include my own(sound effects for Midway Arcade Treasures 3, owners of this game should know what I mean). Is there a way to do it without messing up the game?

Yeah, but I would like to know if there's any other place besides Datel's website to buy this thing, I still don't quite trust buying things online, unless I pay with a money order(I have a problem with using credit cards, as hackers could get you credit card ID number).

Yes, this device will let you boot up gcos.

Just so you know, Divino has dropped 3 of their mod chips to $10 & less (Ninja Mod, Xeno & DuoQ).

Gamestop/EB Games carries Datel/Action Replay/Pelican stuff, so I guess there's a chance they will get it. I did a search to see if I could find anyone else selling it, and I couldn't. Just could mean I used the wrong search terms though.

Maybe they'll release one without an SD card, just the adaptor. That would be sweet and probably around $25.

The Wii can play GC games, right? Does it have a GC memory port on it?

do you have this product to actually confirm that it will allow backups to load on a unmodded gc? not trying to doubt you, just need 100% confirmation from someone who has it. and yes the wii has gamecube controller slots and memory card slots.

Here, i'll quote what it says (since what I put before was lame):

Play home brew Cube titles on your GameCube or Wii…

There's a wealth of really excellent home brew material out there for the GameCube, but how do you get it to run on your happening console? Our GameCube/Wii SD Media Launcher has the answer...

With GameCube/Wii SD Media Launcher, you can run all your home brew Cube software on an unmodified GameCube, or on a Nintendo Wii in GameCube Mode. All you need to do is download the program of your choice from one of the many web pages dedicated to amateur programming on the Cube. Drag and drop it onto the 1GB SD card supplied with the Media Launcher, then plug it into your Wii or GameCube. Launch the application CD on your console and the home brew program is run from there. Easy!

Everything you need is in the box. The pack includes a software CD, 1GB high-speed SD card, a USB SD card adapter and an SD media adapter to fit in your Cube's memory card slot.

    Features

    * Play home brew Cube titles on your Wii or GC.
    * Easy to use.
    * Includes 1GB SD card for storage.
    * All necessary adapters and software are included.
    "

Seems like it should no problem, but I guess there's always a chance.

Changed what I put before because it was out of line. Don't know why I reacted like that, but I shouldn't of.

whoa whoa whoa. no need to call others stupid. i know it runs homebrew. what i dont know is if it REALLY loads the GCOS .dol allowing you to play backups. i need 100% confirmation from someone who bought this product and tried it. like i said, i DON'T doubt you. just need 100% confirmation from someone.

its like saying: "you can play burnt games on your slim pstwo with swap magic alone because it has a built in flip top already" but when you try it, you get an error or something saying the game cant be loaded because you dont have special tools to trick the pstwo.

um, sorry. I had just gotten up and apparently I was angry or something. My bad. No need to me to get like that. I don't normally do, so please accept my apology.

From everything I've read so far about hacking the GC, leads me to believe this won't have any problems loading any dols on the GC.
On the Wii it's a different matter, but you aren't asking about the Wii.

The only reason why it wouldn't be able to load up GCos would be that it had to use AR's software to read it and they programmed against it. Though a new version of GCos could probably get around that. If you can read the sd cards thru any device like you can the SD load, then I can't see any thing that could stop it from loading up GCos.

I'd buy it if I had the money. I'm not going to need it because I ordered a ninja mod chip like 2 days before I found out about the new device. But I paid $20 for the mod chip & tool & shipping.
Still though, it would be nice to have one of those. I just hope they decide to sell a version without a sd card, since I have plenty of those.

well, i have a modded gc already. i just ask because my cousin borrowed a gc and i want to know if this new product can do what max drive pro can do; load backups. 49.99 is a lot for this but should be worth it in the end.

one question, do you know about transferring save files? is it possible to transfer phantasy star online save character file without it corrupting?

OK all I just got mine.

The SDmedia Launcher finally got here and here's the scoop.

The Package consists of an SD Memory Card adapter for Gamecube, 1 Gig SD card, SD media card reader w/usb cable, Media Launcher CD.

Basically it stats that you just drop any .dol files on the memory card supplied and put them in SD memory card adapter, plug into the gamecube , load the cd in and turn it on. Once the menu loads it gives you the listing of whats on the SD card. Choose your dol file and your off.

This in itself works GREAT!!!! Drag and Drop the dol files and it works great......

IT DOES LOAD GCOS 1.x and GCOS 1.5

ANY DOL FILE WILL LOAD ** NES, SNES, GCOS, GENPLUS, ETC **

As far as running backup games - I have not been able to succesfully burn a mini dvd that will work in my gc, I have tried a couple of different methods and still when I try to launch from gcos It tries to spin up I here it click 3 times and then It goes back to the menu. I know its probably the media and I am looking to buy the RITEK brand I think that everyone is saying is the best.

I did think that since the Wii will take bigger disc's that I would burn a regular size DVD and try that. Well the SD Media Launcher works great on the Wii, same as the gc. However when trying to load within ANY emu nes, snes, genplus or gcos etc I get unrecognized DRIVE ID. So I think that is a problem with the code for the emu's or libgc and will need to be addressed by the coding GURU's.

All emulators gave "unable to open SDcard" on every try. Also I noticed that in the Nes emu that if you load the emu by itself it gives you the option of loading from sdcard , but if you run a game or run a injected rom dol and try to load a new rom in the middle of a game it only offers to load it by dvd, it doesnt give the option to load from sdcard while in a game.

For some reason (I know this sounds weird but after I put the GCOS 1.x dol on my sd card , NES and SNES emu will now let me load roms from the SD Card , however GENESIS will not. I still get "Unable to Open SDCARD" - only with GENPLUS emu though. Also its only on 1 of my memory cards (1gig that came with sd media launcher.) my kodak 512 and Lexar 256 still wont do it at all.

Here's the setup on the SD

    GENROMS <---------Folder
    NESROMS <---------Folder
    SNESROMS <-------Folder
    FCEUGC.DOL
    GENPLUS.DOL
    SNESGX.DOL
    GCOS1.x.dol

Also the Folders are in all CAPS (I read on some boards that this may effect the emu from seeing the roms folder , if it is not capitalized).

I do have the action replay and last night tried to go that route and see if it was just a prob with the emu needing sdload or something.
I ran into the same wall. I can run injected emus just fine but if I run the emu itself and load from SDCard will give "unable to open SDCard".

On this problem with sdcards not able to open and when saving "not able to mount memory card" I believe that I was told it had to do with the libgc code that was used at the time the emu's where compiled and that it just now has been updated and released. Hopefully it will fix alot of the problems with the memory card issues. On Tehskeen.com it has been posted that a new GenPlus has been recompiled with the new libgc , I have tried it with each of my sd cards all 3 different size and company's and it still didn't work for me. That's not to say that it doesnt work. Hopefully I will get it working.

So maybe we will start seeing the other emu's getting updated with the new libgc.

Does anyone know where I can get a gcm/iso converter to dol. There are gameboy emus out there but they create a gcm file, also all the injected n64 roms (zelda Exploit) create a gcm. I just need to convert it to dol file. so us sdcard people can run it.

Anyways, Thats my 2cents any questions let me know. If anyone has some suggestions with getting emu's to load PLEASE let me know or let me know what Im doing wrong.

    Peace,
    nufather

I don't know about mini dvd's, but usually RITEK has crap disks.

Everything I've ever read was to stay away from them.

Nufather or anybody that can help,

I bought the sdmedia launcher and set up the folders as you suggested. However, when I try to run either the nes or snes emulator, all I get is a black screen. I have an unmodded Wii. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Joe

This is just a suggestion, The same thing happened on my Wii.

1st, switch the sd media to slot B - this is what I have to do on my Wii to get them to run. The emu wont run, I get the blank screen.

2nd, if you can test it on a GameCube. Whats weird is on my gamecube I have to have the sdcard in slot A, now the emu's will run in slot b but will not load any roms. But works fine in A

    hope this helps,
    nufather
