I was having an average total time for rebuild of about 170 minutes. Then I defragmented my computer and my average rebuild time is about 280 minutes. That's almost 5 hours! I was wondering what if defragmenting the computer did something to slow everything down so I updated to the latest (I think its 1.20.4) and still slow. Does anybody know why this is happening?

Wow, that is a big change in time. I have never had anything but positive effects from defragging my computer. Are you using all the same settings?? Same movie, same encoder, same encoder settings?? Sorry I couldn't be more help, but maybe with some more info, someone may be able to offer a little more insight than me.

yep, same everything. I noticed a correlation after I defragmented my computer. The time before when I defragmented my computer I lost my wireless connection (something with my router). It seems defragmenting is doing more harm then good, or maybe I should do it more than 2x a year.

That is strange. I am pretty anal and defrag mine quite often. I almost always defrag prior to running DVD-RB even and have never had a problem like that.
Are you running one HDD? I have three and use them all for DVD-RB. I use one for the ripped file source, one for working and a third for outputs. I defrag each of them quite often.

I have 2 HDD's and defrag about every other week, regardless if it needs it or not. That thing about your router is strange also. Are you using the default Windows Defragger or a 3rd party program? If you are using a 3rd party, may want to just try to use Windows version, I've never seemed to have run into a problem with it, and honestly do not understand how this would effect your computer the way it has. Very strange, keep us posted.

yep just one HDD and using Windows defragmenter. Maybe I've overworked my computer since its a 'budget' PC and maybe I should upgrade to a 'workhorse' model.

Did you try to uninstall DVD-RB and whatever encoder you are using then re-install it?

In any case defraging every time before using DVD-RB seems kinda excessive. I never defrag my HDD so I would not even have this problem. But you always run the risk of stuff like this happening after a defrag.

I use a Norton's Ghost Image to reinstall my OS and all programs once every 2 months. So there is really no need to defrag when I just do a fresh install (Using the GHost Imag) whenever I want to gain space on HDD or speed up my computer.

Do you use any 3rd party program like Nortons security system or Trojan/Malware program that will scan and fix errors etc? This can cause problems as well.
