I just got my sansa today and when i plug it into the usb slot the computer doesn't recognize it, the icon shows on the tool bar for a usb connection but clicking on it has no affect, no drive letter shows up also under My Computer

Sansa has two USB modes that you can set in the player. One is MSC mode and the other is MTP mode. In MSC mode, when you connect it to your computer, it will show up as 2 drives in My Computer, the first is the sansa itself and the other is the SD card for extra storage.

The second mode is MTP and it is used if you want to use Windows Media Player or a music service to sync your songs with. You probably have your Sansa set in MTP mode because it's set to that by default. Computers will only recognize a sansa set in MTP if your have the needed driver on your computer. I had the same problem in MTP mode, so I upgraded to WMP 11 and the driver was installed on my computer by default, so try diconnecting your player, upgrading to WMP 11, reconnect your player and see if it works then.

But if you don't use WMP and you don't have any subscriptions, you can use MSC mode. I found it easier to use because it don't like WMP and I use Mp3tag to properly tag my songs because that's how sansa reads your song info, not by the filename, but by the tag embedded into the songs.

To change the mode of your sansa go to Settings> USB Mode> and choose either MSC or MTP.

You can find Mp3tag at: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

    Hope this helps!
