I'ved burned single layer and 2 DL on my DVD burner and both DL craped out on me but on the 3rd try I used a single layered disc and I went thourgh with no problem. Can some on help me Here is what nero gave me as the after the error. They weres Verbatium DL's Hope that helps - thanks
Hi AndreL Here's a few suggestions: 1st let's edit out the serial # at the top of the log - begins w/ 5C. Might want to edit out you full name too (don't need someone else using these) Nero Version: 7.0.0.0 Ah the original version of Nero 7 - update to the latest 7.5.9.0a. Quite a few fixes & enhancements since the version you are using. Recorder: <_NEC DVD_RW ND-4551A> Version: 1-Z2 What firmware are you using? Quick check and didn't see this version in modified or stock firmware for this model. The latest stock is 1.08 Another good free burning program to try for dual layer (single layer too) is ImgBurn.
with the ver. firmware that I have now can I update to 1.08 cause the web page says Do I need to have 1.07 to update to 1.08 or can I update the firmware form what I've got. Also in the readme files it says
The firmware that you are using now - is this the original firmware? Or if not where did you download it from? How about the NEC burner did you buy it or did it come w/ the pc?
Okay so you're using patched firmware now? Try ImgBurn yet? My guess since it's still burning single layers - the drive is having a problem w/ the dual layer write strategy - what's the rated speed of these verbs?
Like are they 2.4x, 4x, 8x. You should see that on the label - it's the max burn speed for the disc. If they're 4x or 8x speed they're somewhat newer dual layer media and the drive might not have the correct write strategy. So will use a generic write strategy which doesn't always work.
they are 8x and I've reinstalled and wiped my whole system clean and reinstall (form ghost) my whole system.
Ok here's what I think the problem may be - 8x dual layer media is pretty new to the market and the firmware may not support it as of yet for your drive. I would use 4x or lower dual layer for now on this drive. edit to add - sorry andrel - missed the last post. You can't stop the generic write pattern - when the firmware is updated to support the media that will stop it. Have you checked Liggy & Dees for any recent updated for this drive?
I think all the Verb DL media are labeled as 2X-8X. All of mine is labeled that way. There's plenty of 4551 firmware at deboer's NEC site as well: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/
Txs for the other link laddyboy! I still keep some 2.4x and 4x max around for my older burners. Since dual layer is still a little costly when it comes to coasters I don't use the ones rated to 8x on them - just casue they haven't had firmware update in about year. Not taking the chance
@ binkie7 No probs with the doboer link. I have NEC burners and have used the firmware there regularly. Does your older Verb media code differently than the newer DL media?
Yeah though all are made by MKM - 2.4x is MKM 001, 4x is MKM A02. But I think the 6x or 8x also code as MKM 001 - could be wrong though.

Ok you're getting a power calibration error. Can be caused by firmware and/or media. Verbs are the best dual layer wise so still may be a firmware issue. That or your drive performs poorly w/ dual layer. If you can still burn single layer then is more than likely one of the above 2. Have you checked for other modified firmware - might do the trick.
